Southern Wayne tops Greene Central in extra innings

SNOW HILL -- Rachel Reynolds' single with two outs and two strikes drove in the winning run to lift Southern Wayne to a 3-2 victory over Greene Central in eight innings on Friday evening.

After tying the game at 1-1 on Morgan Davis' two-out, two-strike single in the sixth inning, Southern Wayne took the lead when Alyssa Bradshaw tripled to lead off the eighth and later came home on Reynolds' RBI single.

Lauren Darden pitched a terrific game going the distance while giving up two runs on five hits, walked one and struck out 11.

Greene Central starter Jessica Moore also pitched a complete game, but took the loss by allowing three runs on six hits, walked two and struck out four.

Both teams return to the field on Tuesday when Southern Wayne (3-0) travels to Rosewood and Greene Central (1-1) hosts Spring Creek.

Rams win at

Eastern Wayne

David Stallings went 3-for-3 with two RBIs to lead visiting Greene Central to a 7-4 win over Eastern Wayne on Saturday afternoon.

Zach Chase also had a nice day at the plate for the Rams, going 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs.

Colton Fulghum went 2-for-4 to lead Eastern Wayne.

Jasper Jones (1-0) picked up the win for the Rams while Mike Fields (0-1) suffered the loss.

Greene Central improves to 2-0 with the victory while Eastern Wayne slips to 0-2.

Fayetteville Christian

Wayne Christian nearly came away with a sweep of its matches versus Fayetteville Christian as they won 8-1 on Friday afternoon.

The Eagles were undefeated in their singles matches with Taylor Gray and Daniel Glover both winning 8-0.

The victory makes Wayne Christian 2-0 on the young season.
