Spring Creek one-hits Hobbton

SEVEN SPRINGS -- Ray Grady threw four innings of one-hit baseball while striking out seven, to lead Spring Creek to a 9-0 win over Hobbton, Wednesday evening.

Paul Hayes was 1-for-2 with two RBIs while Tim Rogers, Josh Gammon and Adam Hinson all had RBI singles for the Gators.

Spring Creek now 2-0 hosts Union on March 5.

North Lenoir

gets win No. 1

LAGRANGE -- North Lenoir picked up its first win of the season with a 6-2 defeat of West Craven on Wednesday afternoon. Andrew Manning went 1-for-3 with three RBIs for Hawks (1-1) while Brandon Sutton and Brice Grady both added two hits.

Sthil Sowers picked up the victory by giving up one earned run in six innings while striking out nine.

Bennett, Rebels

take season opener

ROSEBORO -- Rock Bennett scattered three hits in a complete-game performance and North Duplin thumped Lakewood, 11-2, in the season opener for both teams Tuesday afternoon.

Bennett struck out 12 Leopard batters and gave up two runs.

Doug Lloyd added one hit in two plate appearances. He also reached base on a walk and hit-by-pitch.

North Duplin (1-0 overall) entertains Lakewood on March 6.

Softball

Darden near perfect

for Southern Wayne

DUDLEY -- Southern Wayne pitcher Lauren Darden tossed seven one-hit, shutout innings while striking out 15 to lead the Saints to a 2-0 win over East Duplin on Wednesday evening.

Brianna Lofton went 1-for-3 with a stolen base and scored a run for the Saints.

Southern Wayne improved to a perfect 2-0 with the victory and will next travel to Greene Central on Friday.

Aycock no-hit

WASHINGTON -- Charity Watson pitched a near perfect game as she gave up no hits and walked one while striking out 16 to pitch Washington to a 5-0 defeat of Charles B. Aycock, Wednesday afternoon.

Julia Lancaster (0-1) recorded 10 strikeouts for the Golden Falcons in the loss.

C.B. Aycock next face Wilson Fike at home today.

Jordan Coor had one hit and scored two runs to lead the Gators

Aycock doubles

up North Lenoir

LAGRANGE -- Lizzie Sodoma found the back of the net twice in leading Charles B. Aycock to 4-2 victory over North Lenoir, Wednesday afternoon.

Amanda Schlaeppi and Carolina Schlaeppi both added goals for the Golden Falcons. Erin Medford assisted on two of the Aycock goals.

C.B. Aycock improves to 1-1 on the season.

Vail continues to

shine in Aycock loss

PIKEVILLE -- Blake Vail improved to a perfect 2-0 in singles play with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Corey Cooper, but it wasn't enough as Charles B. Aycock lost to Clayton 6-3. Second-seeded Addison Westbrook added a straight set win over Wes Barbour, 6-3, 6-3 for the Golden Falcons. In doubles action, the duo of Vail and Westbrook again provided a win for Aycock by defeating the tandem of Cooper/Jones, 8-6.

Aycock falls to 0-2 this season and will next entertain Rocky Mount on March 6.

over Golden Demons

WILSON -- David Gurganus delivered three hits and emerged the winning pitcher in C.B. Aycock's 8-1, season-opening victory over Wilson Fike.

Gurganus allowed two hits and struck out six Golden Demon batters in a four-inning stint. Jordan Quinn provided three innings of four-strikeout relief.

Josh Martin complemented Gurganus with a 2-for-3 outing. Tyler Ruffin contributed two hits and two RBI in three at-bats. Anderson Barnes batted 1-for-2 with four RBIs.

East Duplin slips

past Southern Wayne

BEULAVILLE -- East Duplin pushed across a run in the bottom of the sixth inning to defeat Southern Wayne 2-1, Wednesday afternoon.

Southern Wayne falls to 0-1 and will next travel to Southern Nash on March 12.
