Mount Olive College prepares for CVAC Tourney

No. 2 seed Mount Olive will play host to No. 10 seed Coker in the quarterfinal round of the 2007 Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference Men's Basketball Tournament Wednesday. Tip-off is 7 p.m. at Kornegay Arena.
Coker advanced with a 66-59 victory over No. 7 seed St. Andrews in the first round Monday at Laurinburg, N.C. The Cobras withstood a late comeback after building a 17-points second half lead.
Coker's win marks the third consecutive year the Trojans will face the 10th-seeded team. It also marks the Cobras' fourth game this season at Kornegay Arena. Along with its regular season meeting against Mount Olive, Coker competed in the Pickle Classic in November.
In other first-round action, Anthony Bell hit all three free throw attempts with 16 seconds remaining to lift No. 8 seed Belmont Abbey to a 73-72 win over No. 9 Lees-McRae. No. 6 Erskine defeated No. 11 Anderson 95-75.
In the women's tournament, Mount Olive is the No. 5 seed and will travel to Laurinburg, N.C., Wednesday to face No. 4 seed St. Andrews. Tip-off is 7 p.m.
In Monday's women's action, Coker's women also pulled off a first-round upset as India Elliott scored 25 points to lead No. 9 Coker to a 78-60 win at No. 8 Lees-McRae. No. 6 Belmont Abbey defeated No. 11 Queens 68-49, while No. 7 Limestone defeated No. 10 Erskine 76-61.
The winners of Wednesday's quarterfinal-round games advance to the "final four" Friday and Saturday at Misenheimer, N.C., hosted by Pfeiffer University. The men's and women's champions will be crowned Saturday night and will earn automatic bids to the 2007 NCAA Division II East Regional.
