Johnson leads Rams to second consecutive EPC tournament title

SNOW HILL -- Reggie Johnson poured in a game-high 31 points and Greene Central out-slugged North Pitt 97-81 in the Class 2-A Eastern Plains Conference tournament championship game Friday evening.

Chevalier Howell complemented Johnson with a 24-point effort. Albert Barron supplied 12 points, while Brandon Sutton and Trey Travis contributed nine points apiece.

Letterious Moore led the Panthers with 18 points.

Greene Central (19-6 overall) entertains Northwest Halifax in the opening round of the N.C. High School Athletic Association playoffs on Monday. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.

Cresset Christian

eliminates Eagles

NORLINA -- Eric Williams pumped in 21 points and grabbed six rebounds in Wayne Christian's 57-54 loss against Cresset Christian in the Carolina Christian 1-A Conference tournament semifinals Friday.

Brian Alexander added seven points. T.A. Brannan pulled down a team-leading 12 boards and scored six points.

The Eagles concluded the year 12-11 overall.

WCDS nearly

pulls off upset

WILSON -- Tripp Dubose sank the game-winning free throw with 1.5 seconds left and Greenfield escaped Wayne Country Day 51-50 in the Coastal Plains Independent 1-A Conference semifinal contest Friday evening.

Dubose finished with 14 points for the Knights, who opposed Kerr-Vance in Saturday's title game. Freshman Brian Richardson added 13 points.

Point guard Floronta Wynn led all scorers and three Chargers with a game-high 23 points. Jeff Franklin provided 12 points and Ajay Fowler chipped in 10.

WCDS, directed by first-year head coach Mike Ellis, is in contention for an at-large bid to the N.C. Independent Schools Athletic Association playoffs.

The 12-team field will be announced today.

Faith Christian

season concludes

FAYETTEVILLE -- Top-seeded Falls Road Baptist limited Faith Christian to single-digit scoring in the final three periods and prevailed 33-20 in the N.C. Christian Schools Association Coastal 2-A region semifinals Friday evening.

Lindsey Godwin and Alyssa Hill emerged the Conquerors' top scorers with eight points apiece. Hill added eight rebounds and three steals, while sister Amie collected a team-high 10 rebounds.

Faith Christian finished the season 10-11 overall.

Middle schools

Dillard girls 33, Grantham 14 -- Machiaya Maye led Dillard with nine points and seven steals in the Tigers' regular-season finale. Lisa Myers emerged Grantham's top scorer with seven points. Dillard (13-3 overall) finished 6-2 against Wayne County Middle School Athletic Conference Division I opposition.
