Faith Christian girls advance in NCCSA Coastal 2-A play

Lindsey Godwin led a balanced offensive attack with nine points and Faith Christian defeated Mount Calvary-Hookerton 31-22 during opening-round play in the Class 2-A N.C. Christian Schools Association Coastal Region tournament.

The Conquerors (10-10) oppose top-seeded Falls Road Baptist at 3 p.m. today on the Berean Christian campus in Fayetteville.

Godwin picked Mount Calvary for three steals, while Alyssa Hill contributed eight points and 11 rebounds. Kristen Maddox provided six points and five steals. Amie Hill and Madison Caudle (six points) grabbed six rebounds apiece.

Middle schools

Eastern Wayne boys 64, Norwayne 44 -- Josh Gregory tallied 19 points and seven rebounds as the Warriors finished unbeaten in 16 outings. Jonathan Midgette and Rashawn Barnes provided 12 and nine points, respectively, as Eastern Wayne emerged the Wayne County Middle School Athletic Conference Division I champion.

Norwayne girls 38, Eastern Wayne 20 -- Courtney Gilbert scored 10 points, Ivey Hartsell added nine and Ashley Shingleton supplied eight points. Tiara Smith and Maurriel Baker collected nine and seven points, respectively, for the Warriors. Norwayne (14-2 overall) clinched the WCMSAC Division I title with a 7-1 record.

Greenwood boys 34, Brogden 31 -- Brandon Scott notched a double-double -- 14 points, 12 rebounds -- for the T-Birds. Teammate Adam Hobbs contributed eight points and nine rebounds. Greenwood concluded the season 5-11 overall.

Greenwood girls 37, Brogden 25 -- Shamora Worrells emerged Greenwood's top scorer with 12 points, while Leslie Hall knocked down six points. The T-Birds finished the season 13-3, including a perfect 8-0 worksheet against WCMSAC Division II opposition.
