Aycocks concludes season with loss

WILSON -- The Charles B. Aycock boys basketball team's season came to a close on Monday night as the Golden Falcons fell to Wilson Beddingfield in the first round of the Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference Tournament, 72-54.

Quantay Poole led Aycock with 14 points while Alex Peacock and Kendre Reid both chipped in with nine points.

The game was the final one for Aycock (0-25) seniors Evan Medford, Daniel Pennington, Nick Weaver, Poole and Peacock.

"Five great guys with a lot of class and character stuck it out this season and never complained once," said Aycock assistant coach Patrick Reynell. "We're as proud of those five as we can be. They turned out to be true leaders by example and have hopefully set a baseline for this program to build up from."

Ayden-Grifton knocks

off North Duplin

AYDEN -- North Duplin concluded its season with a 71-37 loss to Ayden-Grifton in the first round of the Carolina 1-A Conference Tournament.

Becca Coats led the Rebels (1-15) with 16 points while Jodie Williamson added 13.

JV Girls

Wayne Christian falls

in season finale

Wayne Christian lost to Cape Fear Christian in the JV tournament finals 40-26 on Monday evening.

Hanna Kaler led the Eagles with 17 points while Charity Wright chipped in five.

The Eagles finished the year as regular season champions with a 4-0 conference record and finished 9-4 overall.

Middle Schools

Dillard girls 39, Greenwood 26 -- Machiaya Maye's 14 points led Dillard to the win over Greenwood. Shamori Worrells led Greenwood with 10 points. Dillard, now 12-3, will host Grantham on Thursday.

Eastern Wayne boys 56, Brogden 33 -- Eastern Wayne improved to a perfect 15-0 with the victory over Brogden. Jonathan Midgette led the Warriors with 20 points while Joshua Gregory added 14. Eastern Wayne plays its season finale on Thursday when they host Norwayne.
