Correll scores 15 points, SC boys claim No. 2 seed

SEVEN SPRINGS -- Daniel Correll delivered a 15-point outing and Spring Creek upended archrival North Duplin 74-65 in the Class 1-A Carolina Christian regular-season finale for both teams Friday evening.

Correll dished out three assists and pulled down four rebounds for the Gators, who improved to 9-12 overall and 7-3 against conference opposition. They clinched the No. 2 seed for next week's tournament and the N.C. High School Athletic Association playoffs.

David Harris added 12 points, eight assists and two steals. Desmond Raiford tallied 12 points on 5 of 6 shooting from the floor and snagged six rebounds.

Kevin Winn and Maurice Langston supplied 11 and 10 points, respectively. Point guard Josh Wright contributed eight points, five assists, two steals and six rebounds.

Individual statistics were not available for North Duplin. The Rebels (3-13) fell to 3-7 in league play. They entertain fifth-seeded Rosewood in the conference tournament next Tuesday.

Rams clinch EPC

SNOW HILL -- Greene Central put the finishing touches on its Eastern Plains 2-A Conference regular-season title with an 83-53 conquest of border rival North Lenoir.

Reggie Johnson led four Rams in double figures with 21 points, while Brandon Sutton added 14. Kurt Braswell and Chevalier Howell chipped in 11 and 10 points, respectively.

Marques Powell emerged North Lenoir's top scorer with 16 points.

The Rams (17-6 overall, 9-1 EPC) earned a first-round bye for next week's conference tournament. The Hawks (4-20, 1-9) travel to Farmville Central for a quarterfinal-round game Monday.

Wayne Country Day

falls to Greenfield

Point guard Floronta Wynn posted a double-double in Wayne Country Day's 64-54 loss to Greenfield in the Coastal Plains Independent 1-A Conference regular-season finale for both teams.

Wynn scored 23 points and pulled down 14 rebounds for the Chargers, who finished 9-12 overall and 2-4 against CPIC opposition.

Ajay Fowler complemented Wynn with an eight-point effort.

SEVEN SPRINGS -- Spring Creek snapped its eight-game losing streak in Carolina 1-A Conference play with a 53-45 victory over archrival North Duplin on Friday evening.

Melanique DeVeaux paced the Gators with a triple-double -- 22 points, 11 rebounds and 10 steals. She also dished out five assists in the regular-season finale for both teams.

Tasha Whitfield supplied a double-double -- 10 points, 14 rebounds. Shaquita Brooks added 10 points, four steals and four rebounds. Maura Phipps grabbed six rebounds and picked the Rebels for two steals.

Spring Creek (3-18 overall, 2-8 Carolina) drew the No. 5 seed for next week's conference tournament and travels to fourth-seeded Princeton on Monday. North Duplin (1-14, 1-9) is seeded sixth and visits Ayden-Grifton.

Dillon Daughtry scored 19 points and Princeton upended archrival Rosewood 50-41 in the Carolina 1-A Conference regular-season finale for both teams.

Dylan Myers added 14 points for the Dawgs, who concluded the year 2-17 overall and 2-8 in the six-team league.

Zach Mangum paced the Eagles with nine points. Rosewood (3-18 overall) endured its ninth league loss in 10 outings.

picks up CCC win

PANTEGO -- Colton Wood scored 13 points and pulled down seven rebounds to help lead Wayne Christian to a 37-27, non-conference win at Terra Ceia.

Bradley Yelverton finished with 12 points for WCS and Bradley Yelverton chipped in with 12. Justin Brathwaite pulled down 10 rebounds for the Eagles, who improved to 11-4 overall.
