Wayne Christian boys get CCC win at home

T.A. Brannan tallied a team-high 17 points and Wayne Christian dismantled Northwood Temple 70-40 in Class 1-A Carolina Christian Conference play Tuesday evening.

Brannan pulled down seven rebounds for the Eagles, who improved to 11-9 overall and 6-5 against CCC opposition. Shea Gleasman contributed 14 points and five rebounds.

Eric Williams added 12 points and six rebounds. Nick Woods supplied nine points, six rebounds and six assists.

Wayne Christian travels to Terra Ceia on Thursday.

North Duplin

nips Rosewood

CALYPSO -- Chris Graham supplied a game-high 21 points and North Duplin turned back Rosewood 58-51 in Carolina 1-A Conference play Tuesday evening.

The Rebels (3-13 overall) climbed to 3-6 against league opposition and swept the regular-season series against the Eagles.

Ryan Killette complemented Graham with a nine-point effort, while Terell Midgette contributed eight points.

Dennis Jones paced Rosewood with 18 points. Holt Rains and Stephen McIntyre chipped in seven points apiece, while Wayne Hammonds scored six.

Rosewood (5-15, 3-6 Carolina) plays host to archrival Princeton on Friday, while North Duplin travels to archrival Spring Creek.

KENLY -- Spring Creek moved into second place on the Carolina 1-A Conference scene with a 65-58 conquest of North Johnston on Tuesday evening.

The Gators (8-12 overall) seized sole possession at 6-3 after Princeton dropped a Senior Night contest against Ayden-Grifton, which locked up the regular-season championship.

Senior point guard Josh Wright delivered a 21-point outing and pulled down seven rebounds. Desmund Raiford contributed a double-double -- 12 points, 17 rebounds.

David Harris provided 11 points, six assists, five rebounds and two steals. Maurice Langston recorded 10 points and seven rebounds.

Spring Creek welcomes archrival North Duplin on Friday.

PRINCETON -- Ayden-Grifton clinched the Carolina 1-A Conference regular-season title at Princeton's expense with a 67-63 victory Tuesday evening.

Tanner Carnes poured in a game-high 30 points for the Chargers, who improved to 15-6 overall and 8-1 in the league. Teammates Matt Dougherty and Terence Peterson chipped in 15 and 12 points, respectively.

Ryan Daughtry led three Dawgs in double figures with 19 points. Daniel Gerrell added 17 and Josh Holmes pumped in 13.

Princeton trailed by 12 with 4 1/2 minutes left in regulation and closed the gap to a single possession in the final minute. The Chargers sealed the deal at the free throw line.

"We had our chances, but couldn't quite pull it off," said Princeton head coach Jeff Davis.

Princeton (14-9) suffered its fourth conference defeat in its last five outings and carries a 5-4 Carolina worksheet into Friday's regular-season finale at Rosewood.

Warriors cruise

past So. Wayne

DUDLEY -- Wilson Hunt moved within one victory of earning a share of the Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference regular-season title with a 63-52 victory over Southern Wayne.

The Warriors, ranked No. 5 in the latest NCPreps.com 3-A poll, improved to 18-3 overall and 8-1 against ECC opposition. They conclude regular-season play Thursday against county rival Beddingfield.

"I have to applaud my kids for coming out and playing with intensity," said Southern Wayne head coach Russell Royal, who speculated Hunt shot 50 percent or higher from the floor for the game.

Anthony Vick emerged the Saints' top scorer with a game-high 23 points, while Jon Hart scored 11.

Southern Wayne (9-12, 3-6 ECC) is the guest of county rival Charles B. Aycock on Thursday.

upend Saints

DUDLEY -- Shakoria Clark sizzled the nets for a game-high 23 points, but it wasn't enough in Southern Wayne's 60-55 loss against Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference rival Wilson Hunt.

Octavia Lee and Clarice Sherard added nine points apiece for the Saints, who fell to 7-14 overall and 0-9 in the ECC. They conclude regular-season play Thursday at county rival C.B. Aycock.

"We played real well again and have played well most every night we step out onto the court," said Saints head coach Chuck Crumpler. "We're just losing mental focus, especially during the third quarter and that's what happened again tonight."

The Saints shot 1 of 6 at the free throw line in the third quarter.

Chelsea Atkinson led the Warriors with 17 points.

KENLY -- North Johnston claimed a portion of the Carolina 1-A Conference regular-season title with a 66-21 victory over Spring Creek.

Melanique DeVeaux led the Gators with eight points, eight rebounds and three steals. Nicole Johnson grabbed five rebounds.

Spring Creek (2-18 overall) fell to 1-8 in the league.

Brooke Norris tallied 12 points and dished out five assists in Wayne Christian's 37-34, non-conference loss Monday afternoon against Faith Christian-Rocky Mount.

Brittany Sullivan added eight points, while Katie Daniels contributed six points and six rebounds. Hope Wright pulled down eight boards.

Wayne Christian dropped to 6-8 overall.

Goldsboro claims

EPC 2-A win

Demetrio Irby led three Cougars in double figures as Goldsboro routed Greene Central 75-41 in Eastern Plains 2-A Conference action Tuesday afternoon.

Demarcus Moye added 11 points and Tyquan Sprangle tallied 10 for Goldsboro, which improved to 7-13 overall and 3-6 against EPC opposition.

The Cougars conclude their regular season at home Friday against North Pitt.

DUDLEY -- James Jones and Montario Brewington scored nine points apiece in Southern Wayne's 59-57 loss against Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference foe Wilson Hunt.

The Saints (10-12 overall) fell to 1-8 in the ECC and travel to C.B. Aycock on Thursday. Tip-off is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.

Jamarcus Thomas pumped in a game-high 25 points in Eastern Wayne's 64-59, non-conference victory over Rocky Mount.

Thomas dished out five assists and grabbed four rebounds for the Warriors, who improved to 3-10 overall. Jacarr Kelly added 13 points and six rebounds.

Mack Stover contributed seven points and three steals.

Eastern Wayne finishes regular-season play Thursday at Kinston.

Cape Fear Christian girls 23, Wayne Christian 13 -- Courtney Howell led the Eagles with four points, six steals and five rebounds. Brooke Barfield picked Cape Fear for five steals, while Summer Brathwaite hauled down 10 rebounds. Wayne Christian concluded the season 4-6 overall.

Dillard girls 43, Mount Olive 14 -- Machiaya Maye paced the Tigers' offense with 16 points. Kasheika Wallace and Latoria Brunson added nine points apiece. Danielle Carlton led Mount Olive with seven points. Dillard (10-3 overall) travels to Rosewood on Thursday.

Dillard girls 34, Spring Creek 9 -- Machiaya Maye, Shakeria Campbell and Keandra McDaniel each scored six points for Dillard. Bria Wilts led the Gators with five.
