College hoops: Mount Olive tops Limestone

GAFFNEY, S.C. -- The Limestone College men's basketball team saw its eight-game win streak come to an end with a 78-73 loss to Mount Olive on Saturday night at the Timken Center. Limestone falls to 8-3 in Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference play (13-5 overall), while the Trojans climb to 7-4 in the CVAC (13-5 overall).

Mount Olive's Kendrick Easley had a game-high 20 points, as Elijah Rouse contributed 18 points, and Lydell Walker and Elton Coffield scored 12 each. Elijah Rouse grabbed nine rebounds. Rouse and Walker both had two blocks.

Terrell Smith led the Saints with 18 points and three steals. Marq Bell and John Prioleau scored 14 each, while Shawn Poppie chipped in 13. Poppie had a game-high eight assists for the night while Bell and Smith each had seven rebounds.

The contest was close throughout, with Mount Olive holding a slim 37-35 advantage at halftime. The Trojans held a 72-68 lead with only two minutes left to play. Poppie sank two free-throws to cut Mount Olive's lead to only two at 72-70, but the visitors built the score to 76-70. A three-pointer by Limestone's Smith cut the score to 76-73 with only one minute left in the game. However, two late free-throws by the Trojans Kendrick Easley sealed the contest for Mount Olive.

GAFFNEY, S.C. -- Tomeka Prichard went 9-for-12 from the field and matched a career high with 23 points as Mount Olive defeated Limestone 83-66 in Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference women's basketball Saturday.

Freshman Helen Moore and Alisha Jones had 15 points each for the Lady Trojans. Brittany Robich had 14 points for Mount Olive.

The Lady Saints were led by Monica Adams and Lindsay Kyle who had 12 points apiece.
