Wayne Christian fought to within four with a minute to play, but Grace Christian made its foul shots down the stretch to defeat the homestanding Eagles 74-66

T.A. Brannan had a strong game for WCS, scoring 18 points and grabbing eight rebounds. Shea Gleasman added 16 points and seven rebounds for the Eagles while Nick Woods tallied 14 with seven assists and Eric Williams had 10 points.

"It was a really exciting game," said Wayne Christian coach Tim Brannan. "A good game for homecoming."

Wayne Christian (7-8, 8-4) will be back in action on Tuesday when the Eagles travel to face fourth-ranked Cape Fear.

blows out Gateway

The Faith Christian Conquerors held Gateway's offense in check as they won 31-13 in non-conference action.

Madison Caudle scored eight points to go along with seven rebounds to lead Faith.

The Conquerors, now 6-7 (3-4), will travel to face Falls Road on Tuesday.

WCS got outscored by Grace Christian 49-27 in non-conference action.

The Eagles were led by senior Michelle Krug, who had 10 points, while Logan Dawson scored six.

The loss drops Wayne Christian to 5-6 (3-3) and will next travel to face Cape Fear on Tuesday.

Wayne Christian celebrated their homecoming by knocking off Spirit of Life 58-22 on Saturday.

Cotton Woods led the Eagles with 14 points and seven rebounds while Taylor Johnson chipped in with 12 points.

Wayne Christian (8-3, 4-1), next faces at Cape Fear on Tuesday.

Wayne Christian dominates in victory

The Wayne Christian Eagles got a sterling defensive effort to defeat Faith of Rocky Mount 40-10.

Charity Wright scored a season high 16 points and Hanna Kaler added 13 for WCS.

The Eagles improve to 6-2 (2-0) and will next travel to Cape Fear on Tuesday.

Bass Club

The Hawg Breath Bass Club held its January tournament on Saturday on the Tar River Reservior. The team of Mike Norwood and Curtis Mozingo took first place, Lou Cook came in second and Joe Moye and Bernie Leeson were third place. Mike Norwood also captured the big fish honors for the day. Curtis Mozingo moved into first place in the Angler of the Year race. The club did not fish in December because of the severe cold snap on the weekend of the scheduled tournament. Safety of club members was more important that fishing on that day. Anyone interested in more information about fishing with the Hawg Breath Bass Club can contact John Edwards at 778-0165.

Middle School Girls

Wayne Christian girls 24, Bethel Christian Academy 13 -- Summer Brathwaite scored six points, pulled down six rebounds and swatted away seven shots to lead the Eagles to the victory. Wayne Christian improves to 4-3 (2-1) and will next host St. Mary's today.

Middle School Boys

Faith Christian of Rocky Mount 37, Wayne Christian 36 -- Faith Christian of Rocky Mount broke a 16-16 halftime tie to beat Wayne Christian. Chase King led WCS with 13 points and 11 rebounds. The Eagles (6-4, 2-2) will next face St. Mary's today at home.
