WILSON -- Brian McNair provided the game-winning shot as time expired and Wilson Beddingfield escaped Southern Wayne 59-57 in Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference action Tuesday evening.
McNair finished with 17 points for the Bruins, who erased a 10-point deficit in the fourth quarter and claimed their third consecutive victory. Teammate Mike Anderson pumped in a game-high 21 points for Beddingfield, which rose to 5-9 overall and 2-0 against ECC opposition.
Anthony Vick and Orlando Davis paced three Saints in double figures with 15 points apiece. Kendrick Thompson added 11 points. Paris Armwood dished out six assists and Rashad Hill pulled down eight rebounds.
Southern Wayne (7-8 overall, 1-1 ECC) entertains state-ranked Kinston on Friday.

Gators suffer
first league defeat
LITTLEFIELD -- Shaquita Brooks and Sara Parks scored six points each as Spring Creek endured a 40-18 loss at Ayden-Grifton on Wednesday evening.
The Gators (2-11 overall) suffered their first loss in two outings against Carolina 1-A Conference opposition. They continue league play at home Friday against county rival Rosewood.
Fourth-year head coach Mandy Ramfjord said her team converted just 6 of 32 field goals and 3 of 8 free throws in the 32-minute contest.
Melanique DeVeaux handed out two assists. Maura Phipps and Tasha Whitfield each pulled down six rebounds, while Whitfield blocked two shots. Norma Valentin collected five rebounds.
Ayden-Grifton (3-11 overall) improved to 1-1 in the conference.
Eagles falter
in CCC 1-A play
Brittany Sullivan collected a team-high 15 points as Wayne Christian suffered a 45-40 setback against Cresset Christian on the Carolina Christian 1-A Conference scene Tuesday evening.
Michelle Krug added nine points and three assists. Brooke Norris pulled down a team-high 10 rebounds. Hope Wright and Katie Daniels combined for three blocked shots.
Wayne Christian (3-5 overall) dropped to 1-3 in conference play and is the guest of Norlina Christian on Saturday.
Rosewood needs
OT to beat Hobbton
The Rosewood Eagles needed an extra period of basketball to defeat Hobbton 54-48, Wednesday evening.
Kasie Braswell scored a game-high 18 points for the Eagles while Courtney Hill put in 16.
The victory improves Rosewood to 6-7 on the season and the Eagles next travel to play Spring Creek on Friday evening.

North Duplin
extends win streak
Blake King delivered a game-high 14 points as North Duplin cruised past Wayne Country Day 49-26 on Wednesday afternoon.
Akeem Cox added 10 points and Quentin Graham collected eight for the Rebels, who picked up their second consecutive victory.
Vaughn Eason and Brandon Davis emerged the Chargers' top scorers with 11 and five points, respectively.
North Duplin improved to 3-5 overall and plays host to Ayden-Grifton on Friday. Wayne Country Day (6-6) entertains Faith Christian-Rocky Mount in Coastal Plains Independent 1-A Conference play.
Bruins edge
Saints in ECC 3-A
WILSON -- James Jones emerged Southern Wayne's top scorer with 12 points in a 49-44 loss at Wilson Beddingfield on Tuesday afternoon.
Silonte Thompson contributed nine points and eight rebounds for the Saints, who remained winless in two Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference outings.
Terry Davis led the Bruins with 19 points.
Southern Wayne (9-6 overall) plays host to Kinston on Friday.
Rosewood erases
fourth-quarter deficit
The Rosewood Eagles overcame a 15-point fourth quarter deficit to defeat Hobbton 47-46, Wednesday evening.
Joseph Willis' basket with 20 second to play proved to be the winning bucket for the Eagles.
Willis led Rosewood with 14 points while Trevor Cox added 11.
The victory improves Rosewood to 2-11 (0-2) as they next face Spring Creek on Friday.
North Duplin
defeats WCDS
North Duplin outscored Wayne Country Day 49-27, Wednesday evening.
Vaughn Eason scored 12 points to lead the Chargers while Brandon Davis tallied five points.
The Chargers (6-6, 2-1) next play host to Faith Christian of Rocky Mount on Friday.

escapes Hunt
Richelle Butler paced Eastern Wayne's offense with six points in a 21-18 conquest of Wilson Hunt on Tuesday afternoon.
The Warriors (7-3 overall) remained unbeaten in two Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference contests.
Eastern Wayne entertains Kinston on Jan. 19.
