Wayne Christian picks up road win in CCC play

FAYETTEVILLE -- T.A. Brannan and Eric Williams each posted a double-double as Wayne Christian hammered Northwood Temple 70-34 on the Class 1-A Carolina Christian Conference scene Friday.

Brannan recorded 14 points and 15 rebounds, while Williams provided 11 points and 12 rebounds. Adam Brannan emerged the game's top scorer with 16 points.

Shea Gleasman contributed 14 points and eight boards.

Wayne Christian (5-5, 2-2 CCC) returns to action Jan. 5 at conference member Trinity Christian-Raleigh.

Dawgs knock off Leopards

PRINCETON -- Rayn Daughtry pumped in 18 points as Princeton eased past Lakewood 44-37 in non-conference action Friday evening.

Daniel Gerrell added a double-double -- 10 points, 10 rebounds -- for the Bulldogs, who improved 6-4 overall.

Princeton entertains Midway next Tuesday.

Rosewood drops home game

Stephen McIntyre delivered 15 points, including nine from three-point range, in Rosewood's 59-56 non-conference loss against Midway on Friday evening.

Dennis Jones added 11 points for the Eagles, who dipped to 1-6 overall.

Brye Fairchild and Kenneth Carlton led the Raiders' attack with 20 and 17 points, respectively. Fairchild dished out three assists and picked the Eagles for a team-high four steals.

Rosewood travels to Union on Tuesday.

Terra Ceia gains revenge

PANTEGO -- Six-foot-6 Bradley Von Staalduinen poured in 31 points and Terra Ceia upended Wayne Country Day 75-71 in non-conference action Friday evening.

The Knights avenged an earlier loss to the Chargers.

Point guard Floronta Wynn collected 35 points for Wayne Country Day, which dropped to 4-6 overall. Ajay Fowler added 17 points.

The Chargers open their Coastal Plains Independent 1-A Conference schedule Jan. 5 at Kerr-Vance Academy.

Rebels still seeking first win

NEWTON GROVE -- Demetrius Vann led a balanced offensive attack with 13 points in North Duplin's 60-49, non-conference loss at Hobbton on Friday evening.

Ryan Killette added 11 points for the Rebels.

North Duplin (0-2) is the guest of Union on Monday.

F. Central upends Gators

FARMVILLE -- Terrell Barrett delivered a game-high 15 points and Devon Atkinson added 10 in Farmville Central's 65-42, non-conference triumph over Spring Creek on Friday evening.

Josh Wright paced the visiting Gators with 13 points. Desmund Raeford and Carsheme Ruffin tallied four points apiece.

Daniel Correll grabbed a team-high five rebounds for Spring Creek, while teammate Emmanuel Hinton picked the Jaguars for three steals.

The Gators (2-5) travel to East Duplin next Wednesday.

Trio paces Kinston High

SNOW HILL -- Donovan Ingram and Miguel Starkey led three Kinston players in double figures with 17 points apiece in a 64-59, non-conference conquest of Greene Central on Friday evening.

Quintin Coples added 11 for the Vikings, who remained perfect in nine outings.

Chevalier Howell and Reggie Johnson led the Rams, of the Eastern Plains 2-A ranks, with 15 points apiece. Brandon Sutton scored eight, followed by William Brown (seven) and Albert Barron (six).

Greene Central (4-4) entertains Wilson Fike next Tuesday.

Girls

State champs rock S. Creek

FARMVILLE -- Three players recorded double-figure outings as Farmville Central, the reigning N.C. High School Athletic Association Class 2-A state champion, blitzed Spring Creek 71-24 on Friday evening.

Stephony Newkirk led the Jaguars' attack with 21 points. Crystal Smith chipped in 16 and Alexis Blow notched 12 points. Overall, nine Farmville players scratched in the scoring column.

Norma Valentin led the Gators with eight points. Tasha Whitfield contributed six, while Melanique DeVeaux provided four.

JV boys

WCDS earns road victory

PANTEGO -- Vaughan Eason emerged Wayne Country Day's top scorer with 15 points in a 41-27, non-conference victory over Terra Ceia on Friday evening.

The Chargers (5-4) open their Coastal Plains Independent 1-A Conference schedule at Kerr-Vance on Jan. 5.

Middle schools

Wayne Christian girls 23, Neuse Baptist 20 -- Katie Isenhower scored six points, while Summer Brathwaite added six points, five rebounds and four blocked shots. Britney O'Hara provided four points, seven rebounds and six steals. Wayne Christian improved to 2-2 overall.

Grantham girls 35, Brogden 10 -- Taylor Hood and Andrel Morris tallied 13 and 10 points, respectively, for the Bulldogs. Teammate Courtney Holland delivered six points, eight rebounds and three blocked shots. Grantham (1-3) travels to Mount Olive on Monday.

Wayne Christian boys 40, Neuse Baptist 33 -- Chase King posted a double-double -- 20 points, 11 rebounds -- in the Eagles' victory on the Carolina Christian 1-A Conference scene. Chase Darden added 14 points. T.J. Henderson led Neuse Baptist with 19 points. Wayne Christian (5-2, 2-1 CCC) plays at Bethel Christian on Jan. 5.
