Sasser, Sladick lead Faith Christian

FAYETTEVILLE -- T.J. Sasser and Aaron Sladick collected 15 points apiece, and led Faith Christian past Berean Christian 64-48 in a Class 2-A N.C. Christian Schools Association Coastal Region contest Tuesday evening.

Sasser shot 100 percent (7 of 7) at the free throw line for the Conquerors, who improved to 5-1 overall. Taylor Stocks and Nathaniel Patel contributed 14 and nine points, respectively.

Blake Plummer pulled down 12 rebounds.

Faith Christian entertains Falls Road on Friday.

Gators endure

fourth defeat

NEWTON GROVE -- Desmund Raeford poured in a team-high 18 points in Spring Creek's 47-34, non-conference loss at Hobbton on Tuesday evening.

Raeford converted 8 of 9 field goals and grabbed seven rebounds for the Gators, who slipped to 1-4 overall. David Harris added six points and five rebounds. Carsheme Ruffin (five rebounds) and Emmanuel Hinton each scored five points.

Spring Creek entertains James Kenan today.

Leopards rally

in second half

CALYPSO -- Lakewood erased a double-digit deficit in the second half and nipped North Duplin 59-56 in non-conference action Tuesday evening.

The visiting Leopards trailed 40-23 at halftime, but outscored the Rebels 25-7 in the third quarter. Zack Faircloth pumped 11 of his 16 points, including nine from three-point range, during that stretch.

Lakewood held the Rebels to seven points in the period and grabbed a 48-47 lead.

"We played real good defense, I thought, the whole game," said North Duplin coach Ricky Edwards. "Faircloth hit some big shots there in the third quarter. After they got us tied up, it was back and forth the rest of the way."

Faircloth emerged one of four Lakewood players in double figures. Troy Boone and Marcus Graham each scored 12, while Eric Williams chipped in 11.

Chris Graham paced North Duplin, which was playing its season-opening game, with 18 points and nine rebounds. Doug Lloyd contributed 15 points and five assists.

Daniel Cates added eight points and seven rebounds.

North Duplin (0-1) is the guest of Hobbton on Friday.

Bulldogs suffer

high-scoring loss

CLINTON -- Josh Holmes posted a double-double -- 19 points, 10 rebounds -- in Princeton's 91-71, non-conference loss at unbeaten Union on Tuesday evening.

Travis Harper added 12 points for the Dawgs, who dipped to 5-4 overall heading into Friday's home game against Lakewood. Daniel Gerrell recorded eight points.

Brent Graham paced four Spartans in double figures with 26 points. David Hickmond added 20, followed by Brandon Taylor (16 points) and Fletcher Davis (11).

Union climbed to 3-0 overall.

Wilson Fike

rolls past CBA

PIKEVILLE -- Jacob Pendleton emerged the lone C.B. Aycock player in double figures with 10 points in a 65-37, non-conference loss against Wilson Fike on Tuesday evening.

Michael King added six points for the Golden Falcons.

Jeremy Atkinson led the Golden Demons, of the NEW 6 Athletic Conference, with a game-high 17 points. Chris Wheeler chipped in nine.

C.B. Aycock (0-10) visits Northern Nash on Thursday.

Jones' jumper

RALEIGH -- Jeremy Jones drained a 12-footer with eight seconds left and Neuse Baptist clipped Wayne Christian 45-44 on the Carolina Christian 1-A Conference scene Tuesday evening.

Jones' game-winning jumper occurred after T.A. Brannan converted a free throw to give the Eagles a 44-43 advantage. Brannan finished with a double-double -- 18 points, 12 rebounds.

Adam Brannan and Shea Glasman each contributed eight points.

Wayne Christian (4-5, 1-2 CCC) travels to Northwood Temple on Friday.

PIKEVILLE -- Wilson Fike snapped C.B. Aycock's modest two-game win streak in its 45-36, non-conference victory over the Golden Falcons on Tuesday evening.

Jazzmine Lee nailed four three-pointers and finished with 15 points for C.B. Aycock, which fell to 2-8 overall. Chantel Gaines and Jasmine Dobbins tallied eight and six points, respectively.

Bridgette Briggs grabbed eight rebounds for the Golden Falcons.

C.B. Aycock travels to Northern Nash on Thursday.

RALEIGH -- Katie Daniels and Hope Wright provided 14 points apiece in Wayne Christian's 61-26 victory over Neuse Baptist.

Michelle Krug contributed 10 points, while Brooke Norris poured in eight. Shelle Anderson (six points), Brittany Sullivan (five) and Jennifer Price (four) rounded out the Eagles' scoring.

Wayne Christian (3-3) is the guest of Northwood Temple on Friday.

FAYETTEVILLE -- Amie Hill drained two free throws in the final 7.8 seconds and preserved Faith Christian's 27-23 win over Berean Baptist in N.C. Christian Schools Association Coastal 2-A action Tuesday evening.

Alyssa Hill, Amie's sister, paced the Conquerors' attack with 10 points and eight rebounds. Lindsey Godwin added nine points.

Kristen Maddox collected five steals.

Faith Christian entertains Falls Road on Friday.

Third quarter

hurts S. Creek

NEWTON GROVE -- Spring Creek's third-quarter troubles continued in a 52-44, non-conference loss at Hobbton on Tuesday evening.

The Gators led 24-19 at halftime, but allowed the Wildcats to outscore them 18-7 in the decisive third quarter.

"Until my girls decide they want to come out and play in the third quarter, we're going to get beat," said Spring Creek coach Mandy Ramfjord. "We made some careless mistakes. Turnovers were a key factor and missed free throws were a key factor.

"We missed some shots underneath the basket."

But Ramfjord found numerous bright spots.

Tasha Whitfield recorded a double-double -- 14 points, 16 rebounds. Norma Valentin contributed five points and 12 rebounds. Melanique Deveaux added 14 points on 7 of 11 shooting from the floor, and picked Hobbton for two steals.

The Gators (0-6) play host to James Kenan today.

Eastern Wayne

avenges defeat

Cody Kirkham led three Eastern Wayne players in double figures with 19 points in a 73-60 victory over county rival Goldsboro High.

Danny Smith added 11 and Colten Butler chipped 10 for the Warriors, who avenged a loss against the Cougars just seven days ago.

Tyquan Sprangle and Lawrence Holmes pumped in 18 points apiece for Goldsboro, which dropped to 2-4 overall.

FAYETTEVILLE -- Brad Floars notched a team-leading 12 points in Faith Christian's 36-24 win at N.C. Christian Schools Association Coastal 2-A foe Berean Baptist on Tuesday afternoon.

Alta Black tallied a team-high 11 points as Eastern Wayne rolled over county rival Goldsboro High 65-31 on Tuesday afternoon.

FAYETTEVILLE -- Brooke Barfield tallied seven points and picked up two steals in Wayne Christian's 18-7 win over Carolina Christian 1-A rival Northwood Temple on Tuesday.

Britney O'Hara delivered four points, three steals and seven rebounds. Katie Isenhower pulled down six rebounds. Courtney Howell and Jordan Calvert combined for five steals.

Wayne Christian (1-2, 1-1 CCC) entertain Neuse Baptist on Thursday.

W. Country Day

tops Oakwood

Amber McEarnhardt led a balanced offensive attack with six points in Wayne Country Day's 20-16 triumph over Coastal Plains Independent 1-A rival Oakwood Academy.

Jessica Lewis and Ellen Elmore each scored five points for the Chargers, who evened their record at 3-3. Lewis also pulled down 10 rebounds.

Wayne Country Day returns to action Jan. 5 at CPIC foe Kerr-Vance.

Eastern Wayne

stops Goldsboro

Demetrio Irby sizzled the nets for a game-high 27 points in Goldsboro's 67-64, overtime loss against county rival Eastern Wayne on Tuesday afternoon.

Michael Langston and Michael Thevenin contributed 11 and 8 points, respectively, for the Cougars.

Goldsboro (1-3) entertains Southern Wayne on Friday and faces Kinston at 11 a.m. Saturday.

Middle schools

Eastern Wayne boys 65, Dillard 44 -- Jonathan Midgette collected 24 points, seven rebounds and four assists in the Warriors' win on Monday. Lamar Best provided nine points, seven assists and five steals. Eastern Wayne (4-0) visits Rosewood on Thursday.
