MOC's Jacobs named All-American

MOUNT OLIVE -- Mount Olive College midfielder April Jacobs has been named to the 2006 Daktronics NCAA Division II Women's Soccer All-America First Team, as selected by Division II sports information directors. Jacobs, who led the nation in assists per game, becomes the first-ever All-American in the 12-year history of the Trojan women's soccer program.

Jacobs, a junior from Fayetteville (Pine Forest HS), tallied 19 assists in 22 matches this season for an average of 0.86 assists per game. Her 19 assists ranked second in the nation this year and are tied for the 17th-highest single-season assists total in NCAA Division II women's soccer history. Jacobs has 42 career assists, which rank among the top 25 all-time leaders in Division II women's soccer.

Jacobs was named to the Daktronics All-Southeast Region First Team to become the Trojans' first-ever women's soccer player to earn all-region honors in three consecutive years. A three-time All-Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference selection, Jacobs was also among 14 players to be named to the All-Time CVAC Women's Soccer Team.

"I think it's a great honor for April to be named All-American," said Trojan head coach Chris Shaw. "I think she's very deserving after the year that she had."

Mount Olive posted an overall record of 15-7-0 and tied for third in the CVAC standings with a 9-2-0 mark in 2006. Over the past three years, the Trojans are 49-19-0 overall and 25-7-0 in the CVAC. Mount Olive was ranked No. 10 in the year-end Southeast Region rankings.
