C.B. Aycock came up just short in a overtime loss to North Lenoir, 71-68 last Friday evening. Jazzmine Lee poured in a team-high 25 points while Chantel Gaines added 19 for the Golden Falcons. North Lenoir was led by Carla Miller who scorched the nets for a game-high 36 points.
"I'm very proud of the girls' efforts tonight," said C.B. Aycock coach Carrie Reynell. "We played under control and made much smarter decisions with the basketball. Unfortunately, we had some vital mistakes at inopportune times."
The loss drops the Golden Falcons to 0-6.
Middle School boys
E. Wayne 69, Spring Creek 17 -- Eastern Wayne defeated Spring Creek on Monday evening behind the trio of Jonathan Midgette, Josh Gregory and Jamal Broadie who all scored 11 points. The Warriors remain unbeaten at 2-0 and next play host to Mount Olive on Wednesday at 3:45 p.m.
Grantham 38, Greenwood 36 -- Grantham got 17 points from Dezondre Johnson to defeat Greenwood on Monday evening. The victory improves Grantham to 1-1 (1-0) on the season and they next travel to Norwayne on Dec. 11.
Mount Olive 44, Norwayne 34 -- Carlos Council scored a game-high 18 points to help Mount Olive remain unbeaten as they beat Norwayne on Monday night. Breyon Johnson added 11 points for Mount Olive who improved to 2-0 this year and plays next at Eastern Wayne on Wednesday.
Middle school girls
Wayne Christian 12, St. Mary's 10 -- Wayne Christian remained winless on the season as they fell to St. Mary's School on Monday evening. The Eagles were led by Brooke Barfield with 7 points while Victoria Combs added 3. The Eagles are 0-1 in CCC conference play and 0-2 overall. Wayne Christian next travels to Northwood for a conference game on Dec. 12.
Greenwood 30, Grantham 21 -- Greenwood remained unbeaten on the season by defeating Grantham on Monday. Janelle Davis led Greenwood with 14 points. Grantham was led by Lisa Myers who scored six. Greenwood, now 2-0, next plays at Rosewood on Wednesday.
Norwayne 27, Mount Olive 21 -- Northern Wayne got 10 points from Imari Powell to defeat Mount Olive on Monday. The win improves Norwayne to 2-0 (1-0) while Mount Olive slips to 0-2 (0-1).
