The Rosewood wrestling team earned falls in 11 of 12 contested matches and rolled past Greene Central 69-12 on Tuesday evening.
It was the Eagles' dual-team opener.
Holiday obligations created holes in Rosewood's lineup and prompted veteran head coach Bill Edmundson to make some changes. Jim Bish bumped up to 125 pounds and started a step-ladder effect as each teammate from 130 pounds and higher moved up one weight class.
"Last year, Greene Central came in for our home opener and stuck it to us," Edmundson said of the 54-30 loss. "We were all very embarrassed and disappointed in last year's outcome, and used it as a motivational factor this time."
Rosewood heavyweight Trevor Morris started the night with a tight, 7-5 decision over the Rams' Justin Wellington. The Rams moved in front 6-3 on Steve McCoy's forfeit at 103 pounds, but the short-lived lead quickly turned into an insurmoutable deficit.
The Eagles scored the next 66 points.
Andy Seaman started the match-clinching surge with a first-period pin of Xavier Hall at 112 pounds. Dusten Patterson (119) earned a three-minute pin and Bish, a returning state qualifier, collected an injury default over Robert McCoy.
J.D. Baker (130), Chris Hare (135), Josh Holmes (140), Richie Pelt (145), Byron Cavenaugh (152), T.J. Sprinkle (160), Vontarius Kornegay (171) and Chris Holmes (189) each recorded a pin.
Greene Central's Darrin Gorham closed out the match with a first-period pin against Brandon Dean.
"All of the anchors performed exceptionally well including Trevor, who avenged getting pinned last year with a win over Wellington tonight," said Edmundson.
Rosewood (1-0) returns to action Saturday in the Tarboro Turkey Invitational. The Eagles' next dual-team match is Nov. 30 at home against South Lenoir.
