Tournament Most Valuable Player Martin Bellamy scored 29 points and hit two free throws with 30 seconds remaining in overtime to lift Mount Olive to an 84-80 victory over Coker in the championship game of the 21st Annual Pickle Classic.

After Coker tied the game at the buzzer to force overtime, John Simmers' jumper with 1:28 remaining in the extra period broke an 80-80 tie and put the Trojans ahead to stay. Bellamy iced the game with his two free throws.

Mount Olive advanced to the championship game with a 96-76 victory over Newport News Apprentice in the first round. Bellamy scored 27 points in the game, which was marred by four technical fouls against Newport News.

Coker defeated Mars Hill 92-78 in the first round. Mars Hill took the consolation game with an 86-65 victory over Newport News Apprentice. Coker would return to the Pickle Classic the following year with first-year (and current) head coach Dan Schmotzer.
