Denied a Senior Night victory two weeks ago, North Pitt spoiled Goldsboro High's season-ending Senior Night celebration and escaped the Class 2-A Eastern Plains Conference football cellar.

The Panthers claimed a 25-24 victory in overtime and concluded the year 1-4 against EPC opposition. The Cougars (0-11, 0-5 EPC) endured their second winless campaign in the last three years.

Tied at 18-18 after regulation, quarterback Tim Kornegay collected his third touchdown -- a 7-yard run -- on Goldsboro's second play from scrimmage in overtime. The two-point conversion failed.

North Pitt (2-9) tied the contest on its first play in OT and successfully converted the PAT.

Kornegay rushed for three touchdowns and passed for one more. He grinded out 65 rushing yards on 13 carries, and completed two passes for 60 yards. Daquan Joyner, who recently verbally committed to play basketball at East Carolina, hauled in a 3-yard touchdown pass.

Goldsboro, which committed seven turnovers, played without leading rusher Treme Boone and backfield mate Hykeen Coley. The duo missed the game due to injuries.

Andrew Phifer emerged the Cougars' top defensive player with 12 solo tackles and four assists. Kornegay contributed eight tackles and three assists. Dante Love and John Cox combined for 16 stops and three assists.

Tony Turnage rushed for 78 yards and two touchdowns for North Pitt, while teammate Jimmy Clemmons added 70 yards on the ground.

Quarterback Octavious Andrews passed for 65 yards and a score and rushed for another touchdown. Corey Ward tallied 50 receiving yards.
