Busch, Luft on all-time CVAC volleyball team

SPARTANBURG, S.C. -- Mount Olive College alum Heidi Busch and current senior Anna-Marie Luft were named to the All-Time Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference Volleyball Team, it was announced Thursday during awards ceremonies at the 2006 CVAC Volleyball Tournament. Busch and Luft were among 13 players selected to the All-Time Team, which encompasses the "CVAC era" of 1995-96 through 1996-97.

Busch, whose hometown is Fort Wayne, Ind., is a 2006 graduate of Mount Olive and played for the Trojans from 2002-2005. A three-time All-American, including a first team selection in 2004, Busch finished her career ranked fifth in NCAA Division II with 2,456 career kills. In 2004, Busch was one of only two players in the nation to amass over 700 kills and she finished the season ranked third in kills per game. She was named to the All-CVAC first team in each of her four years at Mount Olive and was the 2002 CVAC Volleyball Freshman of the Year. Busch was also a three-time All-Atlantic Region selection and was named to the All-Tournament Team at the NCAA Division II Atlantic Regional in 2004 and 2005.

Luft, a right side hitter from Swansboro, has been named to the All-CVAC first team in each of the last three years, including this season. She was named CVAC Volleyball Freshman of the Year in 2002 and earned All-Atlantic Region honors in 2004 and 2005. As a freshman, she ranked second in the nation in total service aces. She was also nationally ranked in blocks in 2003, and was among the nation's hitting percentage leaders in 2004 and 2005. Luft was named to the All-Tournament Team at the 2005 CVAC Tournament.

Mount Olive won its first-ever CVAC regular season title in 2005, setting a CVAC single-season record with 19 conference wins. Busch and Luft were both part of the first-ever Mount Olive teams to compete in the NCAA Division II Volleyball Championship, earning a bid to the Atlantic Regional in 2004 and again in 2005.

All-Time Teams are being selected for each conference sport throughout the year and are being announced at each sport's conference championship. The All-Time Teams are being announced as the CVAC makes the transition to its new name, Conference Carolinas, which takes effect in June.

Busch and Luft bring Mount Olive's total of All-Time CVAC honorees to four. Junior April Jacobs was named to the All-Time CVAC Women's Soccer Team, while 2003 graduate Beth Martin was named to the All-Time CVAC Women's Cross Country Team.
