Women's volleyball, men's basketball in action today

Kornegay Arena will be the site tonight for a rare volleyball/basketball doubleheader as Mount Olive plays host to a conference volleyball tournament match and a men's basketball exhibition game.

Action gets under way at 6 p.m. as No. 7 seed Mount Olive plays host to No. 10 seed Queens in the first round of the 2006 Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference Volleyball Tournament. In the nightcap, nationally 19th-ranked Mount Olive plays host to Athletes In Action in a men's basketball exhibition. Tip-off is scheduled for 8:30 p.m.

A new format in this year's CVAC Volleyball Tournament has first-round matches taking place at home sites. The top five seeds earn first-round byes. Monday's winner takes on No. 2 seed and conference co-champion Limestone Friday at Converse College in the quarterfinals. The championship match is scheduled for Saturday.

Mount Olive (9-19 overall, 8-12 CVAC) split its final two regular season matches over the weekend, including a five-game win at Pfeiffer to clinch the seventh seed. The Trojans won both regular season meetings against Queens (2-25, 2-18) in four games.

After the volleyball net is taken down, the basketball nets will see action for the first time since the CVAC Tournament in March. The Trojans return three starters from last year's squad, which posted a 25-7 record last year and reached the NCAA II Men's Basketball Championship for the third year in a row.

Limestone wins

men's soccer title

Goalkeeper Ryan Robinson made three saves on six penalty kick attempts, including a save on the final attempt of the match as No. 3 seed Limestone defeated St. Andrews 4-3 in a penalty kick shootout in the championship game of the 2006 Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference Men's Soccer Tournament Sunday at Trojan Field. The conference title is the first ever for Limestone.
