Trojan women tabbed fifth in preseason CVAC basketball poll

Mount Olive was picked fifth in the 2006-07 Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference Women's Basketball Preseason Poll, as voted on by the conference head women's basketball coaches. Trojans Keona Corley and Tomeka Prichard were listed among the CVAC "Players to Watch."

The Trojans garnered 56 points in the poll to finish four points ahead of sixth-place Erskine. Mount Olive is coming off its best season since moving to NCAA Division II affiliation in 1995. The Trojans posted an overall record of 16-13 and finished sixth in the CVAC with a 10-10 mark. The Trojans won their first-round game in the CVAC Tournament for the fourth year in a row.

Corley, a 5-5 point guard from Lillington, reached double digits in assists four times last season and tied a school single-game record with 12 assists against Coker. In last year's CVAC Tournament quarterfinal against Erskine, Corley recorded an unusual double-double with 10 assists and a career-high 13 rebounds.

Prichard, a 5-10 swing player from Havelock, was the 2005-06 CVAC Women's Basketball Freshman of the Year. Prichard averaged 9.8 points per game and set a school record by hitting at least one three-point field goal in each of her final 17 games.

Three-time defending conference champion Anderson received seven first-place votes to finish first in the poll with 97 points. Second-place Barton (87 points) and third-place Pfeiffer (84 points) split the four remaining first-place votes.
