Spring Creek earns share of C/T-RC men's soccer championship
LITTLEFIELD -- Spring Creek converted a pair of penalty kicks and claimed a share of the Class 1-A Carolina/Tar-Roanoke Conference championship with a 4-1 victory over Ayden-Grifton.
The Gators (11-2 overall) concluded league play at 7-1 and await Wednesday's outcome between North Johnston and Ayden-Grifton. If North wins, it will create a tie for first place.
Spring Creek coach Russell Stephens speculated Tuesday morning that if time permits, the two co-champions could play a game later this week to determine the No. 1 seed for the postseason. The N.C. High School Athletic Association playoffs begin Nov. 1.
Diego Rivera and Jose Vasquez each scored a goal out of the flow of play. Meanwhile, Paul Richter and Angel Sanchez each posted a PK.
Sanchez had two saves in goal.
The men's soccer team is the fourth team in school history to win a regular-season title along with men's basketball, men's tennis and women's tennis.
