JV football Ñ Eastern Wayne throttles Wilson Beddingfield

WILSON -- Seven running backs combined for 330 yards rushing and the Eastern Wayne junior varsity football team throttled Wilson Beddingfield 28-6 in Class 3-A Eastern Carolina Conference action Thursday evening.

Hassan Best led the Warriors' ground game with 124 yards and one touchdown. Brandon McCullen, Ryan Jones and Danny Smith each collected a touchdown for the Warriors, who remained unbeaten in three ECC outings.

Will White, Azaveous Dickens and Steven Hall combined for 109 yards rushing.

Laquan Pearsall, Kevin Faulk and Marcus Corbett spearheaded the Warrior defense which limited the Bruins to 138 yards of total offense.

Eastern Wayne (7-1) is the guest of county rival Charles B. Aycock next Thursday.

Goldsboro High

routs F. Central

FARMVILLE -- Goldsboro High erupted for 44 unanswered points during a two-quarter stretch and hammered Farmville Central 50-6 in their Eastern Plains 2-A Conference contest Thursday evening.

Dustin Uzzardo threw two touchdown passes to Enrique Moses and A.J. Parker tallied two touchdowns for the Cougars, who improved to 7-1 overall and 2-1 against EPC opposition.

Parker emerged Goldsboro's top rusher with 123 yards on eight totes. He returned a third-quarter fumble 46 yards for a touchdown.

Ivory Harris and Tyquan Sprangle contributed touchdown runs of 9 and 16 yards, respectively. Marquis King picked off a Jaguar pass and returned it 43 yards for a TD in the third quarter.

The teams were tied 6-6 after one quarter. Goldsboro amassed 22 second-quarter points and posted 22 in the third.

Marquis Dance spearheaded the Cougar defense with eight tackles and two assists. Antwan Pope provided seven tackles, three assists and one sack. Parker and Harris each notched six solo stops and four assists.

Moses recorded six tackles and three assists. Owen Davis collected five solo tackles and two assists.

Goldsboro plays host to North Lenoir next Thursday.

Santos, Baker

lead So. Wayne

KINSTON -- Jabari Dos Santos rushed for two touchdowns and Corey Baker grabbed two touchdown passes in Southern Wayne's 32-12 victory over Kinston in Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference play.

Dos Santos tallied touchdowns on runs of 5 and 18 yards, and finished with 72 yards rushing. Marcus Graham (TD), James Jones Jr., Eric Hinton and Creston Williams combined for 103 yards rushing.

Baker rushed for 92 yards, but snagged scoring strikes of 7 and 11 yards from quarterback Tyler Edwards. Edwards completed 6 of 8 passes for 102 yards. Ryan Messimer hauled in two passes for 40 yards.

Derrick Whitman paced the Saints' defense with eight tackles and a fumble recovery. Jones Jr. contributed five tackles and one interception. Alex Newsome and Juan Segura recorded six and five tackles, respectively.

Terrell Richardson posted two sacks and Dos Santos recovered a fumble on the kickoff.

Southern Wayne (4-3, 2-1 ECC) entertains Wilson Hunt next Thursday.

Hunt upends

Golden Falcons

WILSON -- C.B. Aycock tumbled from the unbeaten ranks in Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference play with a 22-8 loss at Wilson Hunt.

Dominique Young led the Golden Falcons' attack with 120 yards on 18 carries. Khendra Reid provided Aycock's lone touchdown -- a 19-yard scoring strike from Zack Poole in the opening quarter.

Aycock (5-3, 2-1 ECC) plays host to Eastern Wayne next Thursday.

Faith Christian

dumps Trinity

FAYETTEVILLE -- Faith Christian needed four sets to turn back Trinity Christian-Greenville 25-22, 25-18, 17-25, 25-19 in the N.C. Christian Schools Association Coastal 2-A Region tournament Thursday evening.

The Conquerors (8-5) face Berean Christian today for the right to advance to next week's state tournament. Game time is 4 p.m.

Katlyn Floars helped Faith Christian's cause with seven digs, eight kills, one block and two service aces. Brooke Anderson contributed six digs, two kills and one ace.

Renee Provencal delivered two digs, one ace and four assists. Alyssa Hill chipped in three digs, one block and four aces. Heather Crumpler collected six kills, one block, four aces and six assists.

Summer Honeycutt added two digs, six kills, one block and one ace.

"We've had a great season considering that last two years have been rebuilding years," said Faith Christian coach Jamie Conlon, whose team did not win a match in 2005. "The girls have more than doubled what we've done the last two years.

"We're proud of the effort they've put forward this season."

Rams endure

non-league defeat

LITTLEFIELD -- Ayden-Grifton escaped Greene Central 3-2 in non-conference play Thursday evening.

Jonathan Mendez and Johnathan Reyna each scored a goal for the Rams.

Keeper Ivan Martinez recorded 10 saves.

Greene Central (7-9) travels to Farmville Central on Monday.

Middle schools

Norwayne football d. Greenwood 14-6 -- Chris Murchinson and Ra'damez Greene each scored a touchdown for the Cobras. Jarad James, Shepherd Whitfield and Antonio Applewhite emerged the defensive leaders. Norwayne (5-2) concludes its regular-season schedule at home Nov. 2 against Eastern Wayne.

Grantham football d. Spring Creek 8-6 -- Devondre Johnson blocked a 37-yard field goal and preserved the Bulldogs' victory. Max Waddell provided a 2-yard touchdown run and Keenan Winn caught the game-clinching, two-point conversion pass. Grantham (2-4) improved to 2-1 against Wayne County Middle School Athletic Conference Division II foes. The Bulldogs entertain Rosewood next Thursday.

Grantham volleyball d. Spring Creek 25-22, 16-25, 25-6, 21-25, 15-7 -- Courtney Holland led the Bulldogs' attack with 10 service aces and five kills. Madison Davis provided seven aces and three kills. Taylor Hood (four kills) and Amber Lanier (three aces) contributed to the win. The Gators' Mallory Frederick and Hannah Brown combined for six aces. Grantham (4-3) travels to Greenwood on Monday.

Rosewood d. Dillard 25-5, 25-23, 25-6 -- Rebecca Fail, Jenna Aycock, Heather Silvani, Kristen Lynn, Chelsea Sawkiw, Kandace Williford, Stephanie Hall, Haley Howell, Summer Jones and Kerri Jo Gurley all served well in the three-set sweep. Rosewood (8-2) is the guest of Brogden on Monday.
