Coker completes regular-season sweep of MOC spikers

For the second consecutive match, Mount Olive went the distance against a regionally-ranked team as the Trojans fell to No. 10 Coker 29-31, 30-21, 30-22, 30-32, 15-12 in Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference volleyball Tuesday at Hartsville, S.C.

Sam Mitchell led a balanced attack with 14 kills and 15 digs, while Anna-Marie Luft added 11 kills. Racey Bartley and Alicia Mote finished with eight kills apiece.

Corie Skislak recorded a match-high five blocks for the Trojans and Bartley added four blocks. Nikki Murphy tallied 13 digs and three service aces, while Mallory Peavler chipped in 12 digs and four aces. Joanie Werling finished with 39 assists and 12 digs.

Margaret Madison and Lauren Larsen added 19 kills apiece.

The loss drops Mount Olive to 7-16 overall and 6-9 in the CVAC. Sunday, the Trojans took regionally sixth-ranked Converse to five games.

Coker is 13-10 overall and 11-4 in the CVAC.

Mount Olive plays its second match in as many nights as the Trojans travel to Wilson today to take on Barton in CVAC action. The Trojans defeated Barton in four games earlier this month at Kornegay Arena. Match time is 6:30 p.m.

The Queen City Men's Golf Shootout became the "Queen City Rainout" as heavy rain canceled second-round play Tuesday at Concord. As a result, Monday's first-round scores are final and Mount Olive finishes 18th with a 334.

Chris Bitzenhofer and Jonathan Greene both carded a 39-43--82 and finished tied for 50th out of 90 golfers.

Mick Moberg (41-44--85) and Pete Skirpstas (42-43--85) tied for 73rd, while Scott Woodard (41-46--87) tied for 82nd.

Tournament host Belmont Abbey won the 18-team event by one stroke with a 299.

The tournament concluded Mount Olive's fall season. The Trojans begin their spring season in February.
