Weekend preps: Chargers win two

Wayne Country Day tuned up for its season-ending Coastal Plains Independent 1-A Conference volleyball tournament with consecutive victories this week.
Shelly Sullivan served 10 aces and Ashley Clark dished out nine assists in the Chargers' 25-11, 25-13, 25-9 win over Oxford Orphanage. Coach Juliet Jones' team concluded the year 10-8 overall, including a 6-2 CPIC worksheet.
Clark also served two aces and added two kills. Sullivan delivered three kills. Stephanie Sykes collected four aces, two kills, one dig and one assist. Jessica Lewis and Bre Radford combined for six kills.
Wayne Country Day knocked off Faith Christian-Rocky Mount 25-19, 25-19, 22-25, 25-19. Clark passed out a season-high 27 assists to go along with 10 aces, two kills and three digs.
Sykes contributed three aces, five kills and three digs. Sullivan chipped in one ace, four kills and one dig. Kayla Flanagan pounded out three kills.
James Kenan
turns back Union
CLINTON -- Lauren Houston handed out four kills in James Kenan's season-ending 20-25, 25-22, 25-22, 22-25, 15-13 conquest of Super Six 1-A rival Union.
Stephene Williamson contributed three kills and four aces. Hannah Adams knocked down two kills. Jessica Smith, Ashanti Stroud, Demetrius Farrior and Kendall Wolz each added one kill.
Kenan finished 6-4 in Super Six play.
Middle schools
Eastern Wayne soccer 8, Greenwood 0 -- Tyler Brown tallied two goals and one assist, while Will Borden collected two goals for the unbeaten Warriors. Nick Bowden contributed one goal and a team-high two assists. Steven Taylor, Joseph Chavez and Benito Avila each provided one goal. Collin Hobbs dished out two assists, while Megan MacAleese and Jason Horne each recorded one assist. Eastern Wayne (7-0-1) improved to 5-0-1 in Wayne County Middle School Athletic Conference Division I play. The Warriors travel to Grantham next Monday, while Greenwood is the guest of Mount Olive.
Dillard football 40, Spring Creek 6 -- Deontae Lender rushed for touchdowns on runs of 30 and 10 yards. Freddie Jones added touchdowns on runs of 30 and 60. Michael Sawyer collected a 50-yard touchdown run.
The Tigers improved to 4-1 overall and 2-1 in WCMSAC Division I play.
