JV football -- Southern Wayne holds off Beddingfield

DUDLEY -- Jabari Dos Santos rushed for 117 yards and two touchdowns in Southern Wayne's 22-12 victory over Wilson Beddingfield at the Doyle Whitfield Athletic Complex.

Santos' touchdowns covered distances of one and 40 yards for the Saints, who improved to 3-3 overall and 1-1 against Class 3-A Eastern Carolina Conference opposition.

Corey Baker provided 67 yards and a 1-yard touchdown on 17 carries. Dos Santos, Baker and Tyler Edwards accounted for conversion points after touchdowns.

Derrick Whitman paced the Saints' defense with 10 solo tackles and seven assists. Juan Segura collected nine tackles and two assists, while Marquis Graham had nine solo stops.

Alex Newsome contributed eight tackles, while Lorenzo Alford posted six tackles. Graham, Segura and Joseph Otellio each recovered a Beddingfield fumble.

Southern Wayne travels to Kinston next Thursday.

Kinston 30

PIKEVILLE -- Dominique Young rambled for a season-high 271 yards and three touchdowns as Charles B. Aycock out-slugged Kinston 42-30 on Thursday evening at Hardy Talton Stadium.

Marcus Cobb and Nick Redding combined for three interceptions and two touchdown returns against the Vikings. Justin Ivers also picked off a Kinston pass.

The Golden Falcon defense forced six turnovers.

C.B. Aycock improved to 5-2 overall and 2-0 in Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference play.

Goldsboro 30

Greene Central 12

Goldsboro quarterback Dustin Uzzardo threw one touchdown pass and rushed for two touchdowns in the Cougars' 30-12 victory over Eastern Plains 2-A rival Greene Central.

Uzzardo fired a 27-yard scoring strike to Marquis King in the opening half. Uzzardo, who completed four passes for 101 yards, rambled for touchdowns on runs of 24 and 9 yards.

Vonte Waters threw a 19-yard touchdown pass to Enrique Moses in the opening quarter.

Ivory Harris led Goldsboro's ground attack with 66 yards on six carries. Antwan Pope added 62 yards, while Darrin Pittman and A.J. Parker rushed for 52 and 40 yards, respectively.

Harris emerged the Cougars' defensive leader with six solo tackles and three assists. Parker added six tackles and two assists. Darrell Williamson had five solo stops, two assists and a fumble recovery.

Marquis Stance recorded six tackles. Derrick Smith added four solo tackles and two assists. Moses also picked off a Greene Central pass.

Goldsboro (6-1, 1-1 EPC) travels to Farmville Central next Thursday.

Eastern Wayne 28

Wilson Hunt 24

Hassan Best rushed for 155 yards and three touchdowns in Eastern Wayne's 28-24 victory over Wilson Hunt at Little Big Horn.

The homestanding Warriors (6-1) remained unbeaten in two Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference outings and play host to Wilson Beddingfield next Thursday.

Will White complemented Best's offensive effort with 60 yards rushing. Azaveous Dickens collected 40 yards on the ground. Brandon McCullen and Danny Smith combined for 42 yards.

Sophomore quarterback Walker Gourley added a 4-yard touchdown run. Gourley, however, left the game with a broken collarbone and is out for the season. Head coach Jerry Pelt said that Dan Price came in and "played real well at quarterback" in Gourley's absence.

Best, McCullen and Steven Hall emerged Eastern Wayne's defensive leaders.

Hunt amassed 380 yards of total offense.
