Gators win eighth straight

LOUISBURG -- Spring Creek continued to dominate in Class 1-A Carolina/Tar Roanoke Conference play as they defeated Louisburg 3-1 on Wednesday at the Warriors' field.

The first-place Gators (9-1, 5-0 C/TR) have now won eight in a row and have yielded only three goals during that stretch.

Raul Fernandez, Diego Rivera and Jose Escobar scored one goal each for the Gators, while Angel Sanchez had five saves in goal.

Louisburg (2-7-2 overall) slipped to 2-3 in league action.

Spring Creek hosts North Johnston on Monday.

Falcons slip

past Hunt

WILSON -- Charles B. Aycock defeated Wilson Hunt 3-2 -- defeating the Warriors twice in the same season for the first time in school history.

The Golden Falcons (13-2-1 overall) improved to 7-1 in Class 3-A Eastern Carolina Conference play and can clinch at least a share of the league title on Monday at home against Eastern Wayne.

Down 1-0, Aycock scored twice in the second half on goals by Alex Rodriquez and Carson Sasser with David Burke and Rich Holder dishing out one assist each.

The Falcons' Jorge Delgado scored from long range in injury time, before Hunt quickly countered with a goal of its own to complete the scoring.

Aycock owned a 27-15 edge in shots and goalie Jared Kennedy finished with five saves.

Hunt (9-6-2 overall) slipped to 5-3 in the ECC.

Rosewood scored four unanswered goals on its way to a 4-2 win over Ayden-Grifton in Class 1-A Carolina/Tar Roanoke Conference action at home on Wednesday.

Luis Hernandez scored twice for the Eagles, while Justin Beldon added one goal. The Eagles first score came on an on goal. Taylor Allen and Elliott Lee dished out one assist each for Rosewood (7-6-1, 2-3 C/TR), which travels to Spring Creek on Oct. 18.

Will Grantham had two saves in goal for the Eagles.

Warriors, Bruins

Eastern Wayne and Wilson Beddingfield finished tied at 1-1 in a Class 3-A Eastern Carolina Conference battle on Wednesday at Little Big Horn.

Down 1-0 with three minutes left in the second, the Warriors' Robbie Keys scored on an assist from Jace Muelenthaler to push the score to the final margin.

Eastern Wayne finished with a 26-12 edge in shots.

Vincent Hagedorn had 11 saves in goal for the Warriors (5-8-2, 3-4-1 ECC), who travel to Charles B. Aycock on Monday.

Beddingfield (12-4-3, 5-2-1) faces Kinston on Monday.

Hawks cruise

past Jags

LaGRANGE -- North Lenoir's Dustin King and C.C. Croom scored two goals each in the Hawks' 6-1 win over Farmville Central at home on Wednesday in Class 2-A Eastern Plains Conference action.

Ricky Jarman and Tyler Smith added one goal each, while Smith and Croom dished out one assist each.

The Hawks (7-7-2, 3-2 EPC) return to action on Monday against Tarboro.

Bennett, Schlaeppi

take ECC meet

PIKEVILLE -- Southern Wayne's Allen Bennett and C.B. Aycock's Caroline Schlaeppi took first overall in a Class 3-A Eastern Carolina Conference meet on Tuesday at the Golden Falcons' course.

Bennett ran a 18:05, while Schlaeppi completed the meet at 22:45.

Keyed by top-ten finishes by Nik Frederick (18:23), Daniel Pennington (19:39), Eric DuBose (20:39), Jackson Wooten (20:53), Travis Reeves (21:12), C.B. Aycock won the boys meet with a score of 27. Tay Wilder (19:47), Dean Graddy (20:48), Chase Gardner (20:49) and Jordan Hood (21:39) finished in the top for the Saints, who had 28 team points.

Megan Hales (24:17), Hillary Beamon (26:04), Taylor Forbis (26:19), Jordan Stackles (27:29) and Taylor Allen (28:29) claimed the first six spots as Aycock's girls won the girls meet. Southern Wayne's Heather Strickland (32:09) and Sarah Vanhorn (41:05) were the only two girls runners for the Saints.

Nethercutt, Irby

claim EPC event

SNOW HILL -- Greene Central's Chris Nethercutt and Goldsboro's Danielle Irby claimed first-place finishes in a Class 2-A Eastern Plains Conference meet on Tuesday at the Rams' course.

Nethercutt's 18:58 won the boys meet as Irby's 22:18 won the girls event.

Greene Central's Andrew Jarman (19:11), Robert Taylor (20:19), Alex Brann (20:33), Robert Tyndall (21:58) and Robert McCoy (22:07) paced the Rams to a win in the team scoring with 20 points. North Lenoir's Andy Leonard (20:32) led the Hawks to a second-place finish with 40 points, while Goldsboro's Rashad Evans (24:49) and Timothy Richardson (32:46) were the only Cougar runners.

The Lady Rams were the only girls team to figure in the team scoring with 22 points. Ashley Oakes paced GC with a 22:19 -- good for second overall.

SPIVEY'S CORNER -- James Kenan improved to 5-4 in Class 1-A Super Six play with a 25-20, 25-18, 25-13 win over Midway on Tuesday.

Ashanti Stroud finished with seven kills for the Tigers (8-6 overall), while Jessica Smith served up two aces.

Kenan travels to Union today.

SPIVEY'S CORNER -- James Kenan defeated Midway 25-21, 25-16 in Class 1-A Super Six Conference action on Tuesday.

Kendall Wolz and Demetrius Farrior led the Tigers (8-4, 6-3 Super Six) at the net.

Kenan faces Union today in Clinton.

11-12 football

Boy's Club 32, Rosewood 25 -- Rosewood's Dee Mabry finished with 241 yards of total offense and three touchdowns in the loss. The Eagles (2-3) host Eastern Wayne on Saturday.
