Trojan men finish 15th; women take 12th in weekend meet

Mount Olive finished 15th in the men's competition and 12th in the women's competition at the 2006 Hagan Stone Cross Country Classic Saturday at Greensboro.
In the men's competition, the Trojans finished 39 points ahead of Bluefield State (W. Va.) in the 16-team event, which included teams from NCAA Divisions I, II and III.
Donnie Duggins ran the 8k course in 31:01 and finished 95th out of 139 runners. Corey Doub (31:47) was 102nd, Kevin Acree (33:48) placed 110th, Joey Santopolo (35:12) was 118th and Josh Marqueez (36:37) was 129th.
On the women's side, Mount Olive finished 18 points ahead of Division I North Carolina A&T in the 16-team meet. Four of the Trojans' five runners finished within five places and 21 seconds of each other.
Dani Boyes was the Trojans' top finisher, placing 64th out of 129 runners with a time of 23:05 on the 5k course. Theresa Thompson (23:19) finished 65th, followed by Stephanie Behrend (23:20) in 66th, Krystal Kee (23:26) in 68th and Jillian Pruett (31:01) in 125th.
Thompson finished 9/10 of a second ahead of Behrend.
Barring the possible addition of another regular season meet, Mount Olive is off until Oct. 21 when the Trojans compete in the 2006 Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference Men's and Women's Cross Country Championship at Spartanburg, S.C. Converse College is the host school for the championships.
