JV football - Eastern Wayne shuts out Hawks

LaGRANGE -- Steven Hall rushed for two touchdowns and Eastern Wayne concluded the non-conference portion of its schedule with a 27-0 victory over North Lenoir.
Hall finished with 36 yards rushing for the Warriors, who improved to 4-1 overall. Danny Smith added a team-high 135 yards rushing and a touchdown. Azaveous Dickens provided one touchdown and racked up 63 yards rushing.
Will White accounted for 80 yards of total offense -- 20 rushing and 60 receiving on two completions from sophomore quarterback Walker Gourley.
Head coach Jerry Pelt said Brian McCullen, Hassan Best and Kevin Faulk were the standout players on defense.
Eastern Wayne opens its Class 3-A Eastern Carolina Conference schedule next Thursday at archrival Southern Wayne.
Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.

Greene Central 8
SNOW HILL -- Dominique Young rushed for 195 yards and three touchdowns in Charles B. Aycock's 30-8, non-conference victory over Greene Central on Thursday evening.
Justin Ivers added a touchdown for the Golden Falcons, who piled up 281 yards of total offense and improved to 3-2 overall. They begin Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference play next Thursday at Wilson Beddingfield.
Zack Poole completed three passes, all to Khendra Reid, for 45 yards.
Ivers recovered a fumble and picked off three Ram passes on defense. Tyheim Pitt also had a pick, while Kyle Petticoffer recovered a fumble.
Greene Central kicks off its Eastern Plains 2-A Conference slate at home next Thursday against North Pitt.
Middle schools
Greenwood football d. Spring Creek 22-6 -- Edward Muldrow accounted for two touchdowns -- a 31-yard rush and 27-yard pass from quarterback Aaron Dorn -- as the T-Birds captured the Wayne County Middle School Athletic Conference Division II championship. Seamus McKinney returned an interception 35 yards for Greenwood's final touchdown. Greenwood (4-0, 3-0 WCMSAC Division II) entertains Eastern Wayne on Oct. 12.
Norwayne football d. Grantham 12-0 -- Chris Murchinson collected both touchdowns in the Cobras' non-division win. Norwayne improved to 3-1 overall.
