JV football Ñ Pittman, Parker top 100-yard mark in Goldsboro victory

Darren Pittman and Antonio Parker each rushed for more than 100 yards and Goldsboro High completed its sweep of county competition with a 36-14 victory over Southern Wayne on a soggy Cougar Stadium turf Thursday evening.

Pittman piled up 141 yards and two touchdowns on 14 totes, while Parker added a 44-yard touchdown and 124 yards rushing. Tyre Vaughn added a 21-yard touchdown run and Ivory Harris returned a fumble 70 yards for another score.

Coach Danny Merritt cited the offensive line for its consistent blocking throughout the game. Freddie Frazier played center, while Johnny Artis and Darrick Smith handled the guard positions. Marquis Stance and Monte Holloman started at tackle and Marquis King was the wide receiver.

Pittman and Parker paced the Cougar defense with eight and seven tackles, respectively.

Goldsboro (3-0) is the guest of Jones Senior on Monday. Southern Wayne (2-1) plays host to Southern Nash next Thursday.

Eastern Wayne 38

D.H. Conley 0

Eastern Wayne's defense limited D.H. Conley to 13 yards of total offense in the opening half of the Warriors' 38-0, non-conference victory Thursday evening at Little Big Horn.

The Warriors held the Vikings to 100 yards total offense for the game.

Meanwhile, Eastern Wayne amassed a season-high 319 yards of total offense. Danny Smith ran for two touchdowns and finished with 90 yards rushing. Will White added two touchdowns and 69 yards on the ground.

Xavius Dickens provided a touchdown, also.

Eastern Wayne (3-1) is off until Sept. 28 when it travels to North Lenoir.

Wilson Fike 10

C.B. Aycock 6

PIKEVILLE -- Dalton Lewallen caught a 10-yard touchdown pass in Charles B. Aycock's 10-6, non-conference loss against Wilson Fike at Hardy Talton Stadium.

Quarterback Zack Poole connected with Lewallen in the second quarter as the Golden Falcons trailed 7-6 at halftime. Poole finished with 55 yards passing on two completions. Dominique Young led Aycock's ground attack with 74 yards on 13 carries. Tyheim Pitt and Marcus Cobb rushed for 44 yards and 14 yards, respectively, on six carries apiece.

C.B. Aycock (1-2) entertains North Lenoir next Thursday.
