Eastern Wayne swept through all three doubles matches to finish off a 7-2 win at home over Southern Wayne on Monday.

The Warriors got singles wins from Cassie Musgrave, Lindsey Frederick, Elizabeth Borden and Danielle Daniel. The doubles combinations of Bynum-Molly Musgrave, Frederick-Daniel and Borden-Emily Northington emerged in doubles.

Tara Hirsch and Amber Bowden claimed the Saints' lone wins at No. 1 and No. 4 singles, respectively.

The Warriors travel to Wilson Beddingfield today, while Southern Wayne (4-1) hosts Kinston.

Rosewood's Sidney Worrell started the afternoon with 6-1, 6-2 win over Megan Sanderlin at No. 1 singles as the Eagles cruised to a 9-0 win at home over James Kenan on Monday.

Missy Bailey, Erica Nichols, Jamie Andrews, Karli Beasley and Janneke Parrish also claimed singles victories for Rosewood, while Worrell-Andrews, Bailey-Nichols and Beasley-Jillian Casey finished off the sweep in doubles.

The Eagles (2-2, 1-1 Carolina/Super Six) travel to Ayden-Grifton on Thursday.

Gators suffer

WALLACE -- Spring Creek slipped to 1-4 overall and 1-1 in Class 1-A Carolina/Super Six play with a 6-3 setback at Wallace-Rose Hill on Monday.

Jamie Johnston claimed the Gators lone singles win with a 6-2, 7-5 victory over Lindsay Powell at No. 1 singles. The combinations of Johnson-Lauren Player and Jamison Mosberg-Ivey Best notched a pair of wins in doubles for the Gators.

Spring Creek hosts Ayden-Grifton on Wednesday.

SMITHFIELD -- North Johnston captured its first win of the year with a 5-2 victory over North Duplin on Monday. The Rebels' lone two wins came at No. 3 and No. 4 singles by Brittany Cole and Elizabeth Lane.

North Johnston's Whitney Parrish and Shanice Williams emerged at No. 1 singles, while No. 2 and No. 3 doubles were not completed due to darkness.

The Rebels host Wallace-Rose Hill on Thursday.

Rebels remain

unbeaten

CALYPSO -- North Duplin's Heather Hudson posted 10 kills and served up eight aces in the Rebels' 25-21, 14-25, 25-20, 18-25, 15-10 win at home over Wayne Christian on Monday.

The win improves North Duplin to 5-0 heading into its Class 1-A Carolina Conference opener today at North Johnston. The Eagles (6-9) host Cape Fear in Carolina Christian 1-A action on Tuesday.

Brittany Carr added 10 aces for the Rebels, while Vanessa Lynch dished out 11 assists.

Katie Daniels led Wayne Christian with 10 kills, four digs and three blocks, while Michelle Krug added 10 assists and five aces.

Rosewood

sweeps Midway

SPIVEY'S CORNER -- Rosewood's Ashley Williams delivered 10 kills in the Eagles' 25-22, 25-22, 25-22 win at Midway on Monday.

Roxie Phillips added nine assists for the Eagles, while Courtney Hill posted seven kills, two aces and two blocks. Aubrey Reinhard dished out eight assists and had four assists for Rosewood (6-1), which hosts Ayden-Grifton today.

Princeton cruises

past Union

CLINTON -- Princeton's Cynthia Peedin had eight kills and one ace in the Bulldogs' 25-10, 26-24, 25-16 win at Union on Monday.

Stephanie Daughtry added eight digs, four aces and four kills for Princeton (7-2), while Sarah Gibbs contributed seven digs, four kills and three aces. Brittany Davis dished out 13 assists for the Bulldogs, who travel to Spring Creek today.

Delgado tallies

hat trick for CBA

KENLY -- Charles B. Aycock's Jorge Delgado notched a natural hat trick in the Golden Falcons 3-2 win at North Johnston on Monday in non-conference action.

Delgado scored twice in the first half, then finished off his scoring with a goal 13 minutes into the second frame. Alex Rodriguez dished out two assists for Aycock (4-1-1), while Alex Roosen added one assist.

The Panthers got on the board with an own-goal in the 38th minute, then made it 3-2 with a goal two minutes into injury time. Aycock outshot North Johnston, 19-8.

Jared Kennedy had five saves in the goal for the Falcons, who host North Lenoir on Wednesday.

Kendall leads

RHS past Jags

FARMVILLE -- Rosewood's Goss Kendall scored three goals in the first half as the Eagles cruised to a 6-1 win at Farmville Central on Monday.

Kendall also added an assist for Rosewood, which improved to 1-0-1 heading into Wednesday's match at Southern Wayne.

Elliott Lee added two goals and one assist for the Eagles, while Taylor Allen had one goal and one assist.

Will Grantham had two saves in goal for Rosewood.

Forbis, Newell

pace Aycock

MOUNT OLIVE -- Charles B. Aycock's Kelli Forbis shot a 42, while teammate Brooke Newell fired a 44 as the Golden Falcons took the opening Class 3-A Eastern Carolina Conference match on Monday at Southern Wayne Country Club.

Aycock finished with a team score of 86, followed by Wilson Beddingfield at 98 and Southern Wayne at 101. Eastern Wayne (106) and Wilson Hunt (110) rounded out the team scoring.

Jordan Hill paced the Saints with 48, while Alyssa Bradshaw shot a 53.

Jasmine Reeves finished with a 48 for the Warriors as Ashley Smith and Mellisa Ricker each shot 58.

The next ECC match is slated for Sept. 18 at Willow Springs Country Club in Wilson.

Cross country

WCS competes

in five-team meet

CARY -- Wayne Christian's Doug Johnson turned in a third-place time of 21:16 at a five-team meet at Cary Christian on Monday.

Justin Brathwaite (24:42) placed 14th for WCS, while Jon Massey (25:42) took 18th. The Eagles finished third in the team scoring with 67 as Flora-McDonald won the meet with 35 points.

In the girl's meet, Jennifer Price finished fourth at 26:45 to lead the Eagles, who finished with 47 team points. Cary won the girls meet with 17 points. Kayla Kennedy (30:48) and Martha Summerlin (30:48) finished ninth and 10th respectively for WCS.

The Eagles take on Spring Creek at The Cliffs of the Neuse on Thursday.

CALYPSO -- North Duplin's Felicia Lynch served on 16 points in the Rebels' 25-21, 26-24 win at home over Wayne Christian on Monday.

Sam Cates and Katie Swanzey had two kills each for North Duplin (2-3).

Rosewood's Caroline Tart had eight aces as the Eagles suffered a 22-25, 22-13, 25-21 loss at Midway on Monday.

Paige Babb added seven assists for Rosewood (2-4), while Jennifer Hall had six assists.

Eastern Wayne football 46, Grantham 12 -- Jonathan Midgette rushed for 107 yards and one touchdown, while Lamar Best added a punt return for a touchdown and two more rushing touchdowns. Jamal Broadie returned a kickoff 70 yards for a score as the Warriors (1-0) claimed their opener. Eastern Wayne hosts Spring Creek on Thursday, while Grantham travels to Greenwood.

Norwayne volleyball d. Spring Creek 3-1 -- Ashley Shingleton served on 20 points, while Brooke Bell served on 13 points and Cassidy Anderson served on nine points. The Cobras (1-0) travel to Mount Olive on Thursday.

Mount Olive volleyball d. Dillard 3-0 -- Cherisse White paced Dillard with seven service points in the opener for both schools. Dillard travels to Spring Creek on Monday.

Eastern Wayne soccer 8, Rosewood 1 -- Nick Bowden had two goals and two assists, as Tyler Brown posted two goals and one assist and Steven Taylor added one goal and two assists. Allen Debusk, Will Bowlin and Ryan Allison contributed one goal each for the Warriors (2-0). Rosewood's Nathan Huyser posted his team's lone goal as the Eagles fell to 0-1.
