MOUNT OLIVE -- Kari Byzewski's goal in the fifth minute of overtime lifted Queens to a 2-1 victory over Mount Olive in Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference women's soccer Saturday at Trojan Field. Lauren Slattum scored the Trojans' goal late in the match to force overtime.

The game was scoreless at the half as Mount Olive (4-3-0 overall, 0-1-0 CVAC) withstood a pair of early corner kicks by Queens. But the Trojans were unable to capitalize on their best scoring opportunity, missing a penalty kick in the 18th minute.

Mount Olive nearly got on the scoreboard in the 67th minute, but Gina Dos Santos' first shot hit the right post and her second shot was stopped at the line by a Queens defender. Queens (3-3-0, 1-0-0) broke the deadlock in the 86th minute when Tamara Diaz-Matosas' 18-yard shot skipped into the goal to give the Royals a 1-0 lead.

Mount Olive then tied the match less than 90 seconds later when Kate Painter's service found Slattum at the top of the box. Slattum eluded two defenders, then slipped past the goalkeeper to poke the ball into an open net at the 87:01 mark.

Trojan goalkeeper Ali O'Steen kept the match even when she deflected a 20-yard attempt over the crossbar.

In the overtime, Jackie Groff played a ball to Bzewski, who scored off left post from 15 yards out.

Mount Olive was outshot 15-13, the first time this season the Trojans have been outshot. O'Steen recorded 6 saves, while Kristen Kornacki had three saves for Queens.
