JV football - Saints, Cougars post non-conference wins

DUDLEY -- Corey Baker rushed for two touchdowns and Southern Wayne claimed a come-from-behind 20-7, non-conference victory over Western Harnett on Thursday evening.
Baker scored touchdowns on runs of 1 and 28 yards, and ended the night with a season-high 157 yards rushing.
Marcus Graham added 65 yards rushing, including a 2-yard touchdown plunge to put the Saints ahead to stay early in the second half. Graham emerged the defensive leader with 11 stops and one interception.
Gary Woodard contributed seven tackles and Curtis McKinney notched five tackles.
Daquan Braswell and Creston Williams combined for nine pass deflections, while Tyler Edwards picked off a Western Harnett pass.
Southern Wayne (2-0) is the guest of county rival Goldsboro next Thursday. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Cougar Stadium.

Dustin Uzzardo accounted for four touchdowns in Goldsboro's 34-14, non-conference triumph over county rival Charles B. Aycock on Thursday evening.
Uzzardo rambled for touchdowns on runs of 1 and 4 yards. He completed TD passes of 56 and 80 yards to Darren Pittman and Enrique Moses, respectively. Uzzardo finished with 204 yards passing on 12 of 16 attempts. Pittman added 103 yards on the ground on 10 carries. A.J. Parker and Tyre Vaughn combined for 136 yards rushing.
Josh McCoy paced the Cougar defense with eight tackles and two assists. Parker and Pittman each provided six tackles and three assists. Moses recorded seven stops and one assist.
Darrick Smith added three tackles and four assists.
C.B. Aycock scored on a 5-yard run and 45-yard touchdown pass. Additional statistics were not available at press time.
Goldsboro (2-0) plays host to Southern Wayne next Thursday.
