Faith Christian upends defending 2-A state champion Falls Road

First-year setter Renee Provencial dished out 30 assists as Faith Christian upset defending N.C. Christian Schools Association Class 2-A state champion Falls Road Baptist on Tuesday evening.

Summer Honeycutt provided eight blocks and four kills as the unbeaten Conquerors turned back the Crusaders 22-25, 25-22, 15-25, 25-22, 15-11. Faith Christian improved to 2-0 overall and 2-0 against NCCSA 2-A foes heading into Friday's match at Liberty Christian of Durham.

"(It's) a very impressive feat, considering we didn't have a great season last year as far as wins compared to losses," said veteran Faith Christian coach Jamie Conlon. "To beat a team like Falls Road is just a tribute to our team.

"They gave forth their best effort we have seen in a while."

Brooke Anderson complemented Honeycutt's effort with 10 digs, five kills and three blocks. Heather Crumpler contributed five blocks, two kills, one dig, four service aces and 15 assists.

Alyssa Hill collected four digs and three aces. Katlyn Floars delivered six blocks and three kills. Provencial, a first-year varsity starter, recorded 12 digs on defense and pounded out a kill.

Falcons collect

non-conference win

SEVEN SPRINGS -- Charles B. Aycock completed its regular-season sweep of county rival Spring Creek with a 25-21, 22-25, 25-13, 25-16 victory on Tuesday evening.

Senior outside hitter Jazzmine Lee notched a team-leading 10 kills, while senior Amy Fryt added six.

Julia Lancaster served six aces.

Golden Falcons head coach Davis Harris said that Kaitlyn Stafford "came off the bench and provided strong play in the third and fourth games."

Tasha Whitfield led the Gators with six kills, four digs and one block. Brooke Albertson added four assists, one dig and one kill. Ashley Barwick contributed two assists and two kills.

Kristin Smith chipped in three aces, two kills and one block.

C.B. Aycock (3-1) entertains Wilson Fike on Thursday, while Spring Creek (2-2) travels to Midway this afternoon.

Warriors turn

back White Oak

Anna Wilkins led a balanced offensive attack with 11 kills as unbeaten Eastern Wayne dumped Jacksonville White Oak 25-13, 25-11, 18-25, 25-16 on Tuesday afternoon.

Wilkins added three blocks for the Warriors, who remained unbeaten in four outings. Junior transfer Brittanni Billups contributed seven kills and one block.

Carly Boyette recorded six kills and two blocks.

Brooke Newsome dished out 25 assists.

"We played really well," said Warriors coach Bruce Burridge.

Eastern Wayne plays host to Havelock today.

Rosewood rallies,

knocks off Jags

Rosewood rallied from a four-point deficit in the third set and turned back Farmville Central 25-12, 25-16, 25-20 on Tuesday afternoon.

"(A) great team effort," said veteran Rosewood coach Jennifer Cochran, whose team won its 29th match in its last 30 outings. "We are starting to move better as a group. In game one, we had an awesome serving performance by Chandra Meadows."

In game three, the Eagles battled from behind on the serve of senior Aubrey Reinhard. Rosewood erased the Jaguar's 18-14 lead and eventually claimed its fourth victory without a loss this season.

Reinhard and Roxie Phillips dished out seven and nine assists, respectively. Reinhard served four aces, while Phillips pounded out three kills.

Kasie Braswell and Courtney Hill each provided four kills. Ashley Williams contributed two kills and two blocks.

Meadows notched four aces.

Rosewood travels to North Lenoir today in a clash of unbeaten teams. Game time is approximately 6:15 p.m. at Wooten Gymnasium.

sweeps Kinston

KINSTON -- Anna Kennedy and Jordan Hudson combined for 11 service aces in North Lenoir's 25-21, 25-19, 25-14 non-conference conquest of county rival Kinston.

Kayla Sutton notched seven kills for the Hawks, who improved to 4-0. Melissa Lanier added six kills and senior Brittany Sanders picked up five kills.

The Hawks play host to Rosewood today.

WCDS endures

loss on road

ROCKY MOUNT -- Six players recorded at least one service ace each in Wayne Country Day's 13-25, 18-25, 18-25 loss at former conference rival Rocky Mount Academy on Tuesday afternoon.

Erin Taylor led the visiting Chargers with four aces. Ashley Clark, Stephanie Sykes, Erin Taylor and Kim Martell each served a pair of aces. Jessica Lewis recorded one ace.

Clark dished out seven assists in the three-set match.

Lewis had four kills, while Sullivan contributed three digs.

Wayne Country Day (2-4) entertains county archrival Wayne Christian at 5 p.m. Thursday.

Bulldogs roll

past Midway

SPIVEY'S CORNER -- Cynthia Peedin and Kortnie Yutzy each collected five kills in Princeton's 25-18, 25-20, 25-15 non-conference sweep of Midway on Tuesday afternoon.

Brittany Davis handed out 14 assists for the Bulldogs, who rose to 5-1 overall and play host to Union this afternoon.

Tiesha Williams added four kills.

Stephanie Daughtry served four aces and had one block.

KINSTON -- Elliott Lee tallied two goals within an 11-minute stretch as Rosewood battled to a 2-2, non-conference draw with Kinston on Tuesday afternoon.

It was the Eagles' season-opening match.

Lee converted a penalty kick in the 21st minute and added the game-tying goal in the 32nd minute off Goss Kendall's assist.

Officials called the game at halftime due to heavy rain and threatening lightning. James Michael scored one goal and assisted on Ali Mohammed's goal early in the first half.

Rosewood (0-0-1) is scheduled to play at home today against Southern Wayne. The Eagles' home pitch -- Branch Pope Field -- is under water after Tuesday's football game against Hobbton.

Mitchell said he was uncertain if the match would be contested.
