WILMINGTON, Del. -- April Jacobs assisted on both goals in regulation and scored the game-winner in the third minute of the second overtime to lift Mount Olive to a 3-2 double-overtime victory over Goldey-Beacom in non-conference women's soccer Sunday.
Mount Olive (2-0-0) broke a scoreless tie with a pair of goals seven minutes apart late in the first half. Lyndsay Brennan scored the game's first goal in the 28th minute on an assist by Jacobs, then Jessica Smoot added a goal off a Jacobs assist as the Trojans went into halftime with a 2-0 lead.
Goldey-Beacom (0-2-0) cut the lead in half on a goal by Jessica Manlove less than 90 seconds into the second half, then tied the match on Kasey Honeycutt's goal in the 55th minute. Mount Olive outshot Goldey-Beacom 25-18 in regulation, but the score held at 2-2 to force overtime.
After both teams were held scoreless in the first half, Jacobs scored off an assist by Caitlyn Wright at the 103:18 mark to give the Trojans their second consecutive win on their swing through the Mid-Atlantic Region.
Ali O'Steen, who recorded her first collegiate shutout one day earlier, finished with 10 saves for the Trojans. Stephanie Steele tallied 14 saves for Goldey-Beacom.
Mount Olive returns to action Tuesday as the Trojans head to Orangeburg, S.C., to face Division I South Carolina State.
