MOREHEAD CITY -- Charles B. Aycock was dominant on the ground and through the air on Friday night as the Golden Falcons rolled to a 40-14 win at West Carteret in the season opener for both teams.

Senior quarterback Thomas Pilkington tossed a career-high four touchdowns and threw for 124 yards on 7-for-13 passing. Meanwhile, senior Dontay Taylor sparked Aycock's rushing attack with 209 yards on 20 carries -- also career-highs -- with one score.

"They had some fundamental breakdowns on defense. We ran off-tackle power about 22 times, and they were unable to stop it," Aycock coach Randy Pinkowski said. "They (West Carteret) were physical, and that was good for us to see that."

Junior tight end Michael King had two touchdowns of eight and seven yards, respectively, while Montez Ham (50 yards) and Kelton Lewis (27 yards) had one touchdown reception each. Blake Cooper capped Aycock's scoring with a four-yard rumble late in the third quarter as Javonta Taylor's two-point conversion run made it 40-0.

The Patriots (0-1), who host East Carteret next Friday, finally got on the board in the fourth quarter with Isaiah Tripp and Anthony Hester reaching paydirt.

"We started subbing out midway through the third quarter. They pushed a couple scores across on our subs, but we wanted our second unit to play," Pinkowski said.

Travis Milligan led the Falcons defense from his linebacker spot with 18 tackles (14 solo, 4 assists), while junior Ian Calder added nine stops. Anthony Holder and Tim Umeofia contributed eight and six stops, respectively.

Aycock (1-0) hosts Clayton in its home opener next Friday.

The Comets suffered a heartbreaking 22-18 loss at Raleigh Sanderson in their opener.

"We're coming up against another physical team in Clayton, but they will all be in the right spots," Pinkowski added.
