MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. -- The Kinston Indians pushed their record to a season-high 29 games over .500 with a 10-2 victory over Myrtle Beach on Monday afternoon.

Kinston (71-42) got all the runs it needed in the first inning as the K-Tribe scored five times in the first frame. After Myrtle Beach starter Jo-Jo Reyes (1-2) walked the first three batters of the contest, Jordan Brown smacked a three-run triple. Rodney Choy Foo followed one batter later with an RBI double. Javi Herrera singled him home with a two-out single that put the Indians ahead 5-0.

Kinston kept the good times going in the fourth inning with an RBI triple from John Drennen and an RBI double from Jose Constanza. Nathan Panther added an RBI single in the seventh inning. Stephen Head and Herrera rounded out the scoring with two more RBIs in the ninth inning.

Herrera and Choy Foo each had three hits.

Mariano Gomez made a solid spot start, taking the place of injured K-Tribe starter Kevin Dixon. Dixon is having elbow troubles, but Gomez filled in nicely by giving up just two hits in four innings. Ryan Knippschild (5-3) picked up the win from the pen, going four innings and giving up just one hit. Randy Newsom finished up the great pitching performance with a scoreless ninth inning.

Kinston will play game two of this four-game series at 7:02 today in Myrtle Beach. Thomas Cowley, making his first start for the K-Tribe, will take the mound. Cowley was called up from Low-A Lake County after pitcher Jensen Lewis was promoted to Double-A Akron on Monday.
