WILSON -- The Wilson Tobs (15-10, 28-23) scored one run in each of the first six innings and one run in seven of the eight innings they came to the plate en route to a comfortable 7-3 victory over the Columbia Blowfish (11-12, 21-28) Sunday night at Historic Fleming Stadium. The Tobs are now guaranteed a spot in next week's Petitt Cup.

Mount Olive standount Josh Carter, an Eastern Wayne graduate, led the way with two doubles and two RBIs for the Tobs, while Joe Pietropaoli added an RBI double of his own, his fourth double in six games. Travis Holloman added his fifth triple of the season, tying him for the league lead in that category, on his way to two hits and two runs. Seven of the nine Tobs players had hits in the game.

Chase Cates (2-0) went five innings in his first start, giving up one run on four hits. The run was his first earned run allowed in 18 2/3 innings of work this season in Wilson. Shawn Balteff provided 2 1/3 innings of middle relief, and Mike Flye slammed the door on the game for his 10th save of the season to set a franchise record.

With the win, Wilson moves five games over .500 for the first time all season. The Tobs have won seven of their last 10 games and are peaking at the right time as they move into the playoffs starting Friday.

The Tobs get back on the road tonight as they go to Florence for the only time this season to take on the Florence RedWolves. Game time Monday is set for 7:30 pm.

The Wilson Tobs are the 2005 Coastal Plain League Organization of the Year. The Coastal Plain League is a summer-collegiate league with 15 teams located throughout the Carolinas and Virginia. Celebrating its 10th season, the Coastal Plain League features some of the nation's top college baseball prospects each year.
