K-Tribe drops road game

WILMINGTON, Del. -- A lost lead and a one-hour rain delay late in Kinston's game against Wilmington put a damper on the beginning of the Tribe's final regular season trip to Delaware. Thunderstorms delayed play in the top of the ninth with the K-Tribe down to their last two outs.

Wilmington had scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh and one in the bottom of the eighth to take a 4-3 lead on the K-Tribe. Kinston had one out and Argenis Reyes at the plate when rain and lightening stopped play in the top of the ninth inning. The grounds crew at Frawley Stadium in Wilmington spent an hour after the storm passed trying to fix the field, but it was deemed unplayable at 10:45 p.m. and the 4-3 Wilmington lead became an official win.

Kinston got a great performance out of starter Kevin Dixon, who pitched six innings and gave up just two hits and one earned run. Mike Finnochi came in to pitch the seventh inning, and with one out, Claudio Arias struck out but Finnochi's third strike pitch went all the way to the backstop, allowing Arias to arrive safely at first. The pitch was ruled a wild pitch from Finnochi. Jeff Corsaletti struck out one batter later, but it was just out No. 2 in the inning. Andrew Pinckney then hit a two-out triple that brought home Arias. Jeff Natale singled home Pinckney and Wilmington tied the game at three. In the eighth inning, a two-out RBI single by Arias scored Bryan Pritz and gave Wilmington a 4-3 lead.

Finnochi (0-2) picked up the loss for Kinston.

Beau Vaughn (3-4) got the win for Wilmington.

The K-Tribe jumped out to a 3-1 lead behind two sacrifice flies by Brandon Pinckney and an RBI double by Stephen Head.
