The Roy Jones-Clarence Rose Junior Golf Classic is scheduled for Thursday and Friday at Kinston Country Club and Walnut Creek Country Club.

The Carolinas Golf Association has rewarded the event with a higher-level points multiplier for the N.C. Junior Golf rankings. Several of the state's girls and boys ranked among the state's top 50 juniors are expected to participate in the two-day event.

More than 170 golfers from North Carolina have registered for the 36-hole stroke-play tournament, which has six age groups. There are 11U, 13U, 15U and 18U divisions for the boys; and 13U and 18U divisions for the girls.

"The potential of this event is very exciting for us," said Kevin Williams, head PGA professional at Walnut Creek CC. "You have the joining together of two very successful junior events hosted by two wonderful facilities with two very different courses.

"Because of the increased rankings point multiplier given to our event by the CGA for their N.C. Junior rankings, we have the very best golfers from eastern North Carolina, plus an increased number of junior golfers from Charlotte and other points in the western part of our state."

The boys 14U and 18U begin play Thursday morning at Kinston Country Club and play their final round at Walnut Creek on Friday. The boys 11U and 13U, and girls 13U and 18U, play their first 18 holes on Thursday morning at Walnut Creek. They conclude tournament play Friday at Kinston CC.

The tournament is presented by BB&T and Goldsboro Builders Supply, which sponsored Roy Jones and Clarence Rose, respectively, before merging for this year's event.
