K-Tribe drops 4-3 heartbreaker to Keys

KINSTON -- The Indians trimmed a four-run deficit to one, but came no closer as Frederick beat Kinston 4-3 Tuesday night at historic Grainger Stadium.

Brain Barton started the comeback in the fourth inning with his team-leading 13th home run of the year, a solo shot that cut the Keys' lead to 4-1.

In the fifth, a Javi Herrera double drove in Stephen Head to cut the Frederick lead to two. Three batters later, Argenis Reyes singled Herrera home to bring Kinston to within one.

The K-Tribe had the bases loaded with just one out in the sixth inning, but grounded into a double play off Keys reliever Rommie Lewis to end the threat.

Frederick starter Matt Bruback (2-1) won the game, giving up three earned runs in 51/3 innings of work. Jim Hoey picked up his eighth save in eight opportunities this season.

K-Tribe starter Jensen Lewis (6-4) took the loss, giving up seven hits and two earned runs. It was Frederick's first win in the last 10 games against Kinston.

The two teams tangle for game three of the four-game series today at 7 p.m. at Grainger Stadium. Kinston's Chuck Lofgren (12-3), tied for the most wins in all of Minor League Baseball, squares off against Frederick's Kevin Hart (3-7).
