K-Tribe denied ninth-inning rally

SALEM, Va. -- Kinston had the bases loaded in the top of the ninth inning, but a great play by Salem third baseman Ryan Thompson robbed the K-Tribe's Brandon Pinckney of a hit and secured a 7-4 Salem victory. Thompson backhanded a sharply hit ball down the third base line and beat Brian Barton to third base for the force, ending a rally and sending Kinston packing with a two game losing streak.

Barton and Argenis Reyes each had ninth inning RBIs to try and bring Kinston back from a 7-2 deficit. Salem came from behind earlier in the game, down 2-0 before plating two runs in the bottom of the sixth and three runs in the bottom of the seventh. Rodney Choy Foo went 4-for-5 for the K-Tribe with a home run, two doubles and a single.

Chris "Doodle" Hicks (5-2) picked up the loss for the K-Tribe, giving up five earned runs on five hits in 22/3 innings.

Kinston returns to action today, opening up a seven-game homestand. Kevin Dixon will take the mound for the K-Tribe in the 7 p.m. start at Grainger Stadium.
