Thornton brings camp to alma mater

Tennessee Titans linebacker David Thornton has fond memories of growing up in North Carolina where he attended school, played sports and spent many afternoons at the Boys & Girls Club. When deciding to host his first football camp, there was no doubt about which organization he wanted to partner with and where he wanted to hold the camp.

Thornton, a native of Goldsboro and a University of North Carolina graduate, is hosting his first-ever football camp on July 8 at Goldsboro High School in conjunction with the Boys & Girls Club of Wayne County. With the help of local businesses, this camp offers Wayne County youth ages 8-18 the opportunity to enjoy a unique camp experience free of charge.

"I'm excited to be in a position to offer kids in my hometown the chance to participate in a camp that will teach them the basics of football and about life in general," Thornton said.

Entering his fifth year in the National Football League, Thornton recognizes that he has been blessed to play the game that he loves for a living. He values the opportunity to share his gift with others and give back to the community. This free camp is just one way that he hopes to positively impact the lives of youth in Wayne County and encourage them to become models of excellence.

"I feel I have a responsibility to utilize the platform I've been given by setting a positive example for young people to follow," Thornton said. "Giving back to the community is very important to me and I enjoy being a blessing to others whether through my camp or in other ways."

Thornton is heading into his first season as a member of the Titans. Previously, he spent four years in Indianapolis and was a starting linebacker for the Colts from 2003-2005. He is an active volunteer in the community, donating his time, talent and resources to countless organizations throughout Indiana, North Carolina and Tennessee.
