Kinston damages Snow Hill's playoff aspirations

SNOW HILL -- Brandon Rouse and David Currington combined for five hits in Kinston's 6-4 victory over Snow Hill Post 94 on the Area I East Division scene Thursday evening.

Rouse doubled and drove in two runs in a 2-for-5 showing. Currington collected three hits and an RBI in four at-bats for Kinston, which improved to 11-5 in the division and 14-5 overall.

Richie Turner ripped a two-run home run in the fourth and an added an RBI sacrifice in the eighth for Snow Hill.

Kinston's Billy Dudding emerged the winning pitcher, while Jordan Corbett suffered the mound loss.

Snow Hill (7-11, 5-11 Area I East) entertains Edenton today and concludes regular-season play Saturday at New Bern. Kinston finishes its schedule with a doubleheader Saturday at reigning Legion state champion Pitt County 39.

DUDLEY -- Three Wayne County Post 11 pitchers combined for a two-hitter in a 4-0 division victory over D.H. Conley on the Doyle Whitfield Athletic Complex diamond Thursday evening.

Cody Richards, who earned the win, yielded one hit and fanned two DHC batters in a five-inning stint. Anthony Otellio provided one inning of one-strikeout relief and Byron Powell surrendered a seventh-inning single.

Garrett Barfield emerged Post 11's top offensive performer with three hits and an RBI in four at-bats. Powell batted 2-for-3 with an RBI.

Timmy Rogers, Nolan Lancaster (RBI) and Tyler Edwards each contributed one hit. Edwards also drew two walks.

Wayne County (8-2) remained unbeaten in five division outings.

WILSON -- Mount Olive College standout Erik Lovett slapped a solo home run and teammate Stephen Nordan delivered the game-winning RBI as Wilson rallied for a 6-5 victory over Outer Banks in Coastal Plains League action Thursday evening.

Josh Carter, who played first base for the Trojans, provided an RBI double as the Tobs completed the doubleheader sweep 6-0 in game two. Wilson improved to 12-11 overall and improved to 3-1 in doubleheaders this season.

Lovett's homer ignited a four-run, sixth-inning outburst in the opening game. Outer Banks reliever Ryan Kirkman yielded a single to Tyler Stovall and walked Carter. Aaron Bryan tied the game at 5-5 with a two-RBI double and Nordan followed one out later with the go-ahead RBI single.

Wilson returns to action today at Thomasville.
