BURVIK, Sweeden -- Mount Olive College golfer Mick Moberg won the final of the Skandia Tour Match Play Tournament in Burvik, Sweden, to claim the 2006 Swedish Junior National Championship. The win makes Moberg the No. 1 ranked player on Sweden's Skandia Tour Order of Merit, which is the nation's under-21 golf program.

Moberg, a rising junior from Gavle, Sweden, overcame a three-shot deficit in the final seven holes to win the match 2 and 0. After receiving a first-round bye in the 96-player tournament, Moberg won six consecutive matches to earn the national title. In the final match, Moberg pulled within one shot going into the 16th hole, then won each of the final three holes to take home the title.

"I have to admit I wasn't feeling very confident when I was three shots down with just seven holes left, but I was able to make a par on 12 and then birdied 13, and that got me back into the match," said Moberg. "I was a little nervous on the final hole, but I got on the green in two and left myself with a two-footer for par."

Moberg's opponent missed his par putt on 18, giving Moberg the championship.

"This was a huge tournament and I'm very proud of Mick for pulling off the win," said Trojan head golf coach Chip Spiron. "He showed a lot of heart to come from behind the way he did."

Moberg's win comes on the heels of a sophomore campaign that saw him earn All-Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference and All-Atlantic Region honors. He finished 13th at the NCAA II Regional and earned All-Tournament honors at the CVAC Championship with a fourth-place finish. Moberg, who has a 3.86 grade point average, was also named to the 2006 ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District 3 Second Team.
