ZEBULON -- Lee Mitchell's solo home run in the last of the fifth broke a 0-0 game just ahead of a game-ending rain storm as Carolina defeated Jacksonville 2-0 at Five County Stadium after 51/2 innings on Sunday afternoon.

Mitchell, who was hitless in the second half, smacked his ninth home run of the season, driving a one-strike pitch over the left field wall against Danny Muegge (6-5).

Of Mitchell's nine home runs in 2006, three have been slugged against Muegge.

Paul Mildren (6-6), who was credited with his fourth career complete game, delivered his first extra-base hit of his career, an RBI double to give Carolina (3-4) a 2-0 lead.

After Mildren initiated a 1-6-3 double play to end the top of the sixth inning, the umpires called for the tarp, which was never removed. After a one-hour, four-minute rain delay, the game was called.

The middle game of the series with Jacksonville (4-3) is tonight at 7:15 with Jose Garcia (1-0, 1.93) starting opposite Heath Totten (7-2, 3.27).
