Snow Hill beats up Beaufort in 7 innings

SNOW HILL -- Drew Sowers tossed a complete-game four-hitter as Snow Hill Post 94 prevailed 12-2 over Beaufort Post 15 in Area I East Division play Tuesday evening.

Sowers surrendered two earned runs, walked two and struck out five on the James R. Fulghum Athletic Complex diamond. Officials halted the contest after 6 1/2 innings due to the 10-run mercy rule.

Lance Murray paced Post 94's offense with three hits and two RBI in four at-bats. Sowers, Tommy Cobb, Justin Bagley and Hunter Chase each provided two hits.

Snow Hill climbed to 4-8 in division play and entertains Edenton at 7 p.m. today.

edges Post 94

DUDLEY -- Four Wayne County Post 11 pitchers combined for a seven-hitter in a 7-3 division victory over Snow Hill Post 94 on the Doyle Whitfield Athletic Complex diamond Tuesday evening.

Michael Douglas yielded three hits and two runs (one earned) in four-plus innings. Anthony Otellio finished the fifth inning in relief. Sterling Grice and Taylor Sutton combined for three innings of three-strikeout relief as Post 11 remained unbeaten in four division outings.

Chad Gurley emerged Wayne County's offensive leader with two hits and two RBI in four plate appearances. Alex Casey, Byron Powell, Sutton and Tyler Edwards (RBI) each produced one hit.

Nolan Lancaster walked twice and scored two runs.

Wayne County (7-1) entertains Kinston at 7 p.m. today.

Lenoir sweeps

Aycock at home

LaGRANGE -- Josh Lovick executed a perfect suicide squeeze in game one and C.C. Croom turned in a complete-game effort in the nightcap as Lenoir County swept Aycock 2-1 and 8-4 in a non-division doubleheader contested Monday evening at North Lenoir.

In game one, Aycock rallied for the 1-1 tie on Evan Medford's RBI double. Bryant Hill, who walked and advanced to second on David Gurganus' sacrifice bunt, scored on the play.

Lovick provided the game-winning theatrics in the bottom of the seventh. Steven Pridgen, who singled, crossed home to give Lenoir its sixth victory in eight tries.

In game two, Lenoir bolted to an 8-0 lead and Croom did the rest.

Jay Rose doubled and finished with three hits in three at-bats for Aycock. Jordan Carr batted 2-for-3. Conner Narron singled.

Aycock (2-6, 0-3 division) entertains West Johnston for a doubleheader today. Game 1 begins at 5:30 p.m.
