Mudcats 5, Lookouts 0

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. -- Anibal Sanchez ensured Carolina would begin the second half, authoring his first career shutout as the Mudcats defeated first-half champion Chattanooga 5-0 at Bell South Park on Monday night.

Sanchez (3-6), who had not earned a win since April 27 when he beat the Lookouts on April 27, allowed seven hits and was buoyed by stellar defense from the Mudcats (1-0), who evened the season-series with the Lookouts 8-8.

Edgar Gonzalez hit a solo homer in the first to stake Sanchez to a 1-0 lead, then the Mudcats scored three in the second against Tyler Pelland (4-2). Brett Carroll doubled home Jonathan Aceves, then two additional runs scored on a wild throw by Pelland at first base with two outs and the bases loaded. Carroll doubled home J.C. Muniz in the sixth inning to cap the scoring.

Sanchez did not walk a hitter and fanned six in earning his third win of the season.

Paul Mildren (5-5, 3.86) starts today at 7:15 p.m. for the Mudcats.
