Not a good morning for K-Tribe

KINSTON -- The Blue Rocks batted around in the sixth inning as the Blue Rocks beat up on the K-Tribe on Tuesday, winning the 11 a.m. game 9-2 at Grainger Stadium.

Kinston is now 0-2 in morning games, and has scored a total of three runs in those contests.

Down 2-0 in the bottom of the second, Kinston cut the lead in half with an RBI double by Rodney Choy Foo, scoring Stephen Head from second base.

Down 4-1 in the fourth inning, the K-Tribe came back again, with a Brian Barton sacrifice fly, scoring Trevor Crowe from third base and making the score 4-2.

The good times would come to an end in the sixth inning when Wilmington racked up four doubles, two walks and a single to take an 8-2 advantage.

Mariano Gomez (0-1) picked up his first loss of the season. Wilmington's Luis Mendoza (5-2) snagged the win, giving up just six hits and two earned runs in 62/3 innings of work.

A total of 2,100 elementary school students from around Eastern North Carolina took in the game, another elementary day is planned for today at 11 a.m. with Joe Ness taking the mound for the K-Tribe.

Notes: K-Tribe starting shortstop Brian Finegan will miss six to eight weeks with a fractured foot, after fouling a ball off of it in Monday night's game. ... Trevor Crowe has a seven-game hitting streak, his longest of the year. ... K-Tribe catcher Wyatt Toregas finally has enough plate appearances to qualify him for league batting leaders. He now leads the league with a .345 average. ... Chris "Doodle" Hicks was called up from extended spring training. He pitched for Burlington last season.
