Goldsboro athletics director Randy Jordan acknowledged 14 student scholar athletes, who posted a grade-point average (GPA) of 93 or higher. He also praised 34 athletes who received "honor" recognition for GPAs between 85 and 92.
The Cougars and Greene Central shared the Class 2-A Eastern Plains Conference sportsmanship award, which is voted on by the league's head coaches in all sports.
"The award shows that our student-athletes and coaches are doing the right thing," said Jordan. "We are very proud of them."
Jordan also announced the final point totals for the EPC Wachovia Cup, which is awarded to the most outstanding overall sports program in the six-team conference. Farmville Central edged Greene Central 62-61.5 for league supremacy. North Pitt nipped North Lenoir 50-49 for third place.
